Since I just ordered a Blackwood from Zach like two days ago, I'm gonna erase the memory of ever having seen this drop here and avoid Massdrop for the rest of my life.

Meremoth@Meremoth I actually knew that MD was doing a Fostex collaboration waay back when Will had initially announced it on HeadFi. That was actually one of the reasons (not the main reason though) that I did not buy a closed pair back then. But I completely forgot about the collaboration and only remembered about it yesterday.
Oh well.
Don't get me wrong I'm super excited about my pair of Blackwoods that I'll get around Christmas / New Year; it's just that it was (a bit) more expensive, and I'm an eternal miser.

payodpandaI'm quite the miser to when it comes to making a choice that didn't up being the best one. I'll beat myself up pretty bad, so I do a ton of research, lots of hesitating/stalling, lots of reading of opinions, lots of going back and forth and doubting myself and everything, lots of scrutinizing/analyzing.... which is why it took me 6 months to purchase all the parts to finally build what I thought would be the best PC at the time, and over a year now to make this decision I've made here, and I'm still agonizing over which amp and DAC to purchase, so if it's any consolation, I'm currently still making myself miserable. :P

MeremothCheck purrins measurements on super best audio friends. Gives a look on which dacs work with these cans. So depending on the sound you want....also review on mxx grace dac as well on headfi and purrin, read up and u can get a good idea how these cans will perform and the type of sound u want.

OnePunchManI actually was just reading that thread.
I've come to the conclusion that I want something "neutral" and "transparent" for my first external headphone amp and DAC, so I can get a feel for how the TH-0XX's sound without being "colored" by an outside source, and then perhaps delve into a more colorful world of amps & DAC's if I think the TH-0XX needs it.
I've narrowed it down to JDS Labs O2 and ODAC (Rev B), the Schiit Modi Uber and Magni Uber stack, or perhaps mixing the two companies together.
I was initially leaning towards the O2 and ODAC, but now I'm leaning more towards the Magni and Modi because it seems like some people can't tell much of a difference, if any at all, when it comes to the differences in neutrality and transparency, and if that's the case for my ears and they all sound the same, then I might as well get the Schiit Uber Stack for the additional features, yeah?
And still trying to decide if I should get the cables Schiit lists on their website (http://schiit.com/guides/getting-connected) or if I should order them from somewhere else.
I suck at making decisions, lol.

MeremothI'm using these with my Magni U2/Modi U2 stack: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0105PHHFK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00
They're great but a little stiff.

Meremothboth are well regarded and well tested, can't go wrong with either one, maybe try and figure out any additional features you may want down the road, so you can have different experiences with different cans etc.

MeremothI'm in the same situation. These are my second "proper" headphones, the first set being the AKG K7XX that I bought in the first production run a year ago. I got the M2U+M2U stack for that, and it sounds good.
FWIW, I think the Schiit stack is a very good value for money proposition. Also, I did buy their cables too, the cheaper ones. I'm perfectly happy with them. The shorter RCA connection cables are perfect if you're making a stack.
However, I want to try a non oversampling DAC with a tube amp for the ZMF Blackwood, and I also don't want to end up spending too much money. I'm looking at DACs with the TDA 1543 chip (usually on the cheaper end), but I still don't know which amp to look at. From what I've read online since the Blackwood are orthodynamic, they're sort of harder to drive even though they have low impedance. Most tube amps in the budget range don't output enough power at the required impedance. I know I could probably try a hybrid amp for extra power, but I reaaally want to try a pure tube experience.
