for a guy who has, and enjoys a fidelio x1, how much of an upgrade is this? and how is it compared to an hd600? looking to try something new. i like the overall sound signature of the x1's, but i do want better imaging and detail

diecastI need this information as well. I just received my X2's in the mail today and I've been enjoying them, but they don't have the crisp, clean quality of my HD600s. They sound amazing, don't get me wrong, but the HD600s are cleaner. Knowing how these will stack alongside the (not overly) bass-y X2s and the detail of the HD600s would be interesting. Even if these two are open backs.

BananaShoesthey won't be as crisp and open sounding as the HD600. I think other than soundstage they sound better than the X2 though.

diecastNot in the same ballpark at all. The hd600 is a gateway hp in this hobby, as so many people recommend. However, if you aren't looking to master a track, or just listen to classical then the hd600 is (imo) a bad recommendation for a audio hobby newcomer. i find that more people want to put a hp on their head that makes them go wow! I didn't know i could enjoy a track that much. That is what the th-x00 delivers. The hd600 is more a diagnostic tool than a fun headphone. It lacks character (but that is what it's supposed to be). Also, ill say it, the bass on the hd600 is weak. Now, x1 vs th-x00? I own the x1 and have listened to the th-x00 back to back against it. The th-x00 is superior in literally every way. Vocals sound more well rounded, more robust. Bass hits hard but remains clinically clean (this is where you will hear the difference right off the bat, the x1 has big boomy bass, the x00 has big better bass :)). Also, all this talk of sibilance, i have no idea what you guys are hearing. I catch no signs of it. Just my two cents.

diecastWe are in the same boat, after hearing the x1 vs x00 i knew i had to bump it up (i got the x1 for my bass heavy songs, since i listen to acoustic on the th500rp and some newly aquired zmf bw's) the x00 is, simply put, the most well rounded hp i've ever heard under $1k
diecastThe Senn HD600s are still an amazing set of Cans and I have owned a pair for OVER 15 years... It takes a really good set of cans to be much better.
