"Hey echineko, When we're working on these collaborations, a key factor is determining what's easy and what's difficult for the manufacturer we're working with. Changing the earcups, earpads, and sound signature of these headphones was in the realm of possible, but altering the cable structure to a removable system was impossible given the constraints of the project. To make the cables removable, Fostex would have had to make changes to the internal wiring structure and create new tooling ($50k+ immediate expense) for the frame to accommodate the removable cable. That said, it's worth knowing these headphones are easy to recable should you so desire. The earcup comes off via four screws hidden under the earpad, and from there the cabling of the headphone is pretty obvious. I've had to do it myself a few times and I'm no electrical engineer lol."

JamesIAmI think including me, I will be happy to pay extra for removing cables... Mid to long term, you will probably up the revenue :) Especially when a lot are crying for detachable. Though I understand you may have other constraints like time, etc but with this and detachable wire you'll have off the hook demand.

CliffCriI'm not from massdrop, just quoting someone who is. And I think they're all already produced so they can't change it now :P

CliffCriYou're right and I would pay extra too. But I have AKG K240 MKII with a removable cable, and I have abused that cable like crazy rolling with my desk chair over it so many times. 6-7 years later, it is still working perfectly. Now the Fostex cable being braided and all, I doubt it would still look good after 6-7 years. I'll take special measures to baby that cable and raise it off the floor.
