Mine arrived and the finish is very close on each cup and not to dark IMO (got lucky I guess), the outside box was dented not squished though and the inner box was fine. The http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/DISTRIBUTED-BY-MCM-22-24150-/22-24150 hard case I got is a simi tight fit, but not squishing anything and was a good investment for it I think. First paired with my Xonar STX (stock opp amps) and O2 and the bass was just overbearing to my ears and slightly sibilant in the highs. I then paired it with my ODAC and the O2 and its still slightly not as tight of bass (but has a lot of it) as the K7XX (expected this) and not as detailed but still very good. Still think it was a great purchase as my only other closed cans are the second gen M50's (non X). The monoprice adapter it comes with is not bad but horrible for this heavy of a connector and I would never even use it TBH and I have linked associated pics of my cans, the hard case, and the Hosa adapter I recommend ( http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-MHE100-5-Headphone-Adapter-4-Inch/dp/B000068O6B/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1454047504&sr=8-6&keywords=hosa+6%22+1/4%22&linkCode=sl1&tag=zeos-20&linkId=1c27816ad9ee966a0eb65bbe6dfb8d9b ). Also the O2 on low gain will rip apart your ear drums at just the 3rd notch up these are super easy to drive. EDIT: Just wanted to say the highs are still slightly siblant on the STX with O2 but they are growing on me and im used to the signature of this DAC so either way seem to be spending more time with them on it vs the ODAC. These also make crap sources sound horrbile though FYI.

rvcjewFinish on the headphones looks exceptionally good (y) Did you cut the foam inside the case yourself? Actually, for a case manufacturer, this is a really good thing to do, to deliver filled case, and let users to cut how they want! Love it! Got yourself a little wannabe ruggedized Audeze travel case! And for under 20$, you can't get any better! Really nice!

LeQwasdThe foam is full shape with two layers of it but inside is many squares to remove, I ripped some of it on the edges but it's fine and yeah was a killer deal. Credit for find goes to Swampy not me. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/fostex-x-massdrop-th-x00-purpleheart-headphones/talk/414649

rvcjewThanks for the impressions and the photos of that hard case @rvcjew (and @Swampy !). I was curious about the fit just going off the measurement specs on the dealer's web site, but that looks acceptable. The other model number that is roughly the same size but has bigger LxW specs would be too shallow I think, and put pressure on the ear cups.
I just got mine on Monday and don't have time to post photos and my detailed impressions at the moment, but I will follow up later with a detailed review.
TL;DR version: I am really, really happy with these cans! :)

rsnblmnYeah, I saw the longer one too but also agree it would be to shallow and trusted swampy with the other dimensions they provided. I figured if it didn't fit and you buy another bigger one your down 50 bucks and u still saved like 50 over any other hard case I could find.
