Massdrop needs to change their process if they want returning customers. They have no financial incentive to deliver the products. You pay 100% up front and they can take as long as they want to send you what you bought. This is the second time I buy from them and I remember that the first time I bought from them I thought I wouldn't buy from them ever again.
The more I think about it, the less sense it makes. You pay 100% upfront and don't really know when you will get what you bought. I might be wrong, but I didn't see any policy about getting your money back if the drop takes too long, so technically it could take years. On top of that, updates from them are almost non-existent. I have to keep checking the drop page to see what's been happening.
It feels as if we were asking Massdrop a favor. If I couldn't deliver what I promised and I was paid upfront, I would be sending updates daily and try my very best to let customers know they're important and that I don't want to lose their business.
I guess it works for them but I sure see lots of disappointed customers in the discussions.

RismoI was really not joking in my previous response: "Right now, I feel like this is just a racket to get to keep your money and earn interest. If they get enough money, they can get a sweep account and earn a boatload of interest before shipping. Please don't take that as me not wanting them to make money. I really expect that out of a service provider. What I don't expect is for them to change the rules after the game has begun. If you feel impatient and unhappy now, imagine the feeling those of us who have been waiting (with no words from MD on status) since June feel!"
Now, I'll make a slight wording change from "racket" to "method". There's another company who is selling a product which I really think looks cool and something I'd love to have. It's two Bluetooth earpieces which have a mic on them and play in stereo. Nothing completely earth shaking there since there's several of these on the market. The things that separate these from their competition are as follows. First, they are able to be 33 feet away from the Bluetooth source, such as your cell phone, laptop, tablet, what have you. Second, and most impressive, is that they are IP67 rated. For those of you who are human and don't have all the "IP" ratings memorized, that's complete seal against dust with the ability to be submerged up to 1 meter in water without issue. The company advertises that you can swim in them, but I really doubt the practicality of carrying on a cell phone conversation while you're doing laps at your local pool. :) That said, the ability of these to be so well protected that I could have one drop in water if it fell out of my ear and know that it's still going to work is really cool. Right now, you can get these for right at 1/3 off. The catch is, you give them $199.00 today and the estimated ship date is "Spring 2017". There are a number of people on board with that company and I view that as almost an investment or a "kick starter" type thing where you know that part or most of what you're paying for is the completion of the design, build, and the fabrication of the product. This, however, is not what Massdrop is doing with these cans. For Fostex at this point, the mahogany cans should basically be just a "pull out the design docs, order X*2 mahogany cups, X*2 drivers, X cable and headphone hardware, assemble, QC, and ship." For Massdrop this is just "collect the money, pay the invoice to Fostex, ship the product out once it's arrived in the warehouse."
So this brings up the issue I have with Massdrop here, namely those of us who were in the drop that closed in June all paid for our cans, Massdrop has that money in their accounts, and now we're watching. We all knew right then the ship date was going to be 30-Sept. We also knew that there was going to be a brand new offering, the Purpleheart wood version in that drop and, in the best sports trading parlance, "a third wood to be named later coming" in July (that was the Ebony, obviously). As I pointed out above, Fostex is not doing any sort of new design, testing, or certification of a brand new product. In fact, this isn't even the first drop with Fostex has made other drops on the mahogany prior. Rather, the money was collected from everyone and sent (ostensibly) to Fostex to pay for the manufacturing and shipping of the cans. After this has happened, all of us who got in on the June drop then see a new drop at the end of August for the exact, NO CHANGES, same product, same price, but is a "limited quantity" (no idea what was limited about it either) drop and was to be shipped on Sept 02. After a number of people posted here and began to raise questions about what was really going on, Massdrop then stated that "oh, well we're actually shipping everyone on the same date, Sept 02." That date has come and gone and there's still no good update.
If I'm ever going to buy from Massdrop again, I need to have some assurance from Massdrop that there will be 1. better communication on the status of the shipment, 2. better handling of new drops (a new drop of the exact same product should NEVER ship before a previous drop), and 3. timelines need to be met or a reasonable explanation for them being missed provided. I know that for my group, the June group, we are still within the Sept 30 shipping timeline. Reading through this discussion though, it's clear that this isn't the first time MD has done this. As others have said, if I could, I'd cancel mine now and get my money back, then go to eBay and purchase them and have them in my hands by the end of next week. I didn't do this originally because I wanted to be sure I had a product with a full, good warranty. At this point, I just want what I paid for. Is that too much to ask for?
