I would like to start off by saying that Massdrop is not a retailer. Massdrop is a community of enthusiasts that use this site to buy things in a group.
I do not understand why everyone is surprised. You all knew what you were getting yourself into when you signed on for the drop. As you have with any other drop that you have participated in. The only guarantee is that you will get the product. Time of fulfillment is an estimate.
If you look at Fostex's website, it appears that the most similar model based on specs (not exactly the same) is the TH610s. They are listed on Amazon, for much more that what we paid, you can go ahead and pay extra money for the convenience of buying from a retailer.
Massdrop's own words are that it is a community-driven e-commerce site. It seems that people fail to understand that the Massdrop does not have the items sitting in a warehouse waiting for the drop to complete.
With that said, it appears that there is a lot of confusion with multiple drops being handled in the same thread. As long as I get the cans eventually, everything will be okay. A better communication system would certainly be helpful, but just simply saying at the start of the drop update which drop you are referring to.
Hopefully some of what I said resonates with some of you and you calm down and stop angrily typing away at a company that promises that are failing to keep that they never actually made. Let them spend more time trying to get the drops in order and improve the communication instead of having to deal with babysitting unhappy customers that can't handle being patient. If you really need instant gratification, go to your local hifi audio dealer and spend your whole wallet on a full retail price item.

TroyathyWe just didn't expect as much of a delay. We know that Massdrop is the middle-man, but is there really nothing that could have been done to get the shipment to the warehouse sooner? I know that is mostly the shipper's fault, but I am frustrated with the lack of communication that seems to be going on with costumers. If you ask customer support anything, they will fire back with nothing helpful. Look back a page or 2 for a good screenshot someone shared. A few other examples have been shared from multiple pages ago. We get that it's a completely different business than Amazon and eBay and such, but there definitely needs some improvement. I'm willing to wait for the headphones, so I'm not pulling out, but I do wish that they could have shipped out sooner. Not necessarily Massdrop's fault. I do hope that Massdrop's communication system improves in the future as well.

TroyathyI agree with Troyathy here. you guys are all being unreasonably whiney. you'll get your cans when they're done; crying about it on massdrop discussion pages doesn't help.

TroyathyWell, the TH610 are tuned differently by Fostex and they have another type of wood (I believe it's Walnut). There is the detachable cable as well. I don't think it warrants the extra few hundred dollars, however they are not the same. Anyways, I partly agree with you. I don't expect quick drops (I do feel sorry for JimK tough, as he has waited for quite some time now), but I assumed the worst when USP lost the shipment. It seems there will not be any more waiting.
I'll stay on the drop.

TroyathySo Alex agrees the system could use some improvements and you guys are all: You knew what you signed up for, shut up and stop whining. Good call, maybe Massdrop should just just start telling their customers that. Just piss everyone off, and all that's left are you guys who like giving up money for months on end to then someday get a surprise in the mail that has bubble marks and twisted cables. Sounds like a limited base to me. I'm sure Massdrop would like to keep as many customers as possible and we would like to continue to support them. Troyathy, get off your high horse, we don't need a lecture.

Troyathyretail [ree-teyl for 1–4a, 5; ri-teyl for 4b] 1. (noun) the sale of goods to ultimate consumers, usually in small quantities (opposed to wholesale ). 2. (adjective) pertaining to, connected with, or engaged in sale at retail (ex: the retail price.) 3. (adverb) in a retail quantity or at a retail price. 4. (verb (used with object)) a. to sell at retail; sell directly to the consumer. b. to relate or repeat in detail to others: (ex: to retail scandal.) 5. (verb (used without object)) to be sold at retail (ex: It retails at 50 cents.)
So just take definition number 1, "the sale of goods to ultimate consumers." -- Massdrop IS a retailer. If you really want to know, just ask them how much they paid in sales tax last year. (just because you don't see a sales tax number in the order doesn't mean it isn't paid). Massdrop, but pretty much any definition is a retailer. They are not a reseller in the traditional sense of walking into a store and picking something up, but then again Amazon isn't either.
Massdrop is a retailer in that they are the entity that goes to the manufacturer, Fostex in this case, buys product(s) in a bulk of some amount, then fulfills those to orders which have been placed. Fostex, for the record, is a MANUFACTURER, owned by Foster Electric and headquartered in Japan. Fostex chooses, like so many other manufacturers do today, to sell direct. This is the business model change that many of our parents and almost certainly our grandparents/great-grandparents would just never understand. However, please disabuse yourself of the notion that Massdrop is not a retailer. Because of this, they are being held to the standards of a retailer by those of us on this forum who have been waiting a long time for goods we paid for and then "seem" to have then be treated wrongly on. I don't know MDs intent, no one but MD does and I'll just assume it's an honest mistake (as much as possible). However, telling me they aren't a retailer or that we who have been waiting for a long time to get an already designed model of headphones when others who ordered a brand new model of headphones have gotten their's, that is just a non-sense argument.
