Fun fact: These can break after in under a year just by putting them on and taking them off your head. The metal that connects the ear cup to the headband splits and the ear cup is no longer connected to the headphones. Happened to me and others. Pretty cool for $400, right? MassDrop considers this legitimate "wear and tear" and will refuse to process a $400 pair of headphones that are less than a year old under their manufacturer's warranty. These sound amazing for the price, but unfortunately, if you want a lasting pair of headphones, I have to highly encourage people not to buy these.
TimebombWasn't aware of that before ordering (i am in previous drop and still waiting for them), but if i had knew that i sure would have reconsidered buying them, specially with Massdrop refusing to apply the warranty...
TimebombYou should be able to get the part from Fostex. I used Fostex headphones for years in my studio. They always had all parts for their headphones.
VonsidWhat usually breaks Foster headphones is having them on your desk without a stand, the minor shocks it absorbs each time you set your headphones to the desk, start to weaken the material and it finally cracks when pressure is applies to them.
Having a headphone stand is essential anyways for preserving value, if you ever want to sell your pair(nobody wants scuff marks on their cups). Not to say that was the case here, but there are quite a few visible marks on the cups.
Timebombthis is why you keep wooden headphones on a stand. Contact Fostex, not massdrop, massdrop will be incredibly annoyed and cheap because they will then have to go through fostex.
TimebombSucks that happened but man those headphones look so worn for being less than year old. How did you manage to rub the paint off to ends of the headband part? They are literally turning white.
TeapeaHeadphones priced at $400 should not break, no matter how I set them on my desk. This isn't reasonable wear and tear. I can throw my current headphones across the room. They will be fine. Why? Because they are well made. These might sound like bliss .. but if they break that easily, they are garbage. I came here to buy a pair. Thanks for saving me the trouble.
AmpHiI feel the same, my Denon AH-D2000 (Fostex made) that I bought 2nd hand (god know how long the previous owner owned it prior to this), and then I've proceed to own it myself for another year and it still works perfectly fine and in good condition.
Makes me wonder what he did to his headphone. =______=
AmpHiKeen eye. I didn't even notice that. The paint is all still there, except for a little bit around the edges of the black painted metal pieces that say "L" and "R" parts, and a tiny bit around the edges of the metal strip that connects part of the right can to the headphones. Anything else in the photo is likely because the photo's not the best quality; quick phone shot. It doesn't ever touch anything except occasionally my hair, so I don't really know what to say. I guess I have a lot of hair and wear them for several hours a day every day?
AmpHitbh i can never trust people with broken headphones reviews, mainly because im not a person that treats his headphones that well, drops them occasionally and have never broken my headphones. Some of the reviews with broken headphones include the vmoda crossfades which survived a fall from 4 feet into concrete with a couple of scratches but somehow the reviews show broken headphones. The other review where they occasionally show broken headphones are my fidelio x2's which are built like a tank. Im not sure if you can break these but somehow people have done so. This is the reason i dont really trust reviews with broken headphones because i have never broken my headphones eventhough i have dropped them by accident on concrete.
TimebombDamn that sux, well hopefully the parts aren't too expensive and Fostex headphones are pretty easy to take apart so hopefully you can fix it soon. :)
fezzynessBy the way, any idea how to contact Fostex? Fostex's only contact is for sales - otherwise they tell you to contact the distributor. Thanks a lot.
TimebombIdk which country you're in but contact their local distributors and tell them you bought the product on here and that it includes a 2 year warranty.
TimebombWow... I don't mean to offend, but those do not look cared for or gently used at all. My still look brand new and I use them every day. There is like wear everywhere and a weird crease in your headband.
