Received my pen+ink bundle yesterday, and love them, except for one of the pens, which doesn't fill using the Piston (appears to leak air/ink to behind the piston.). Also interesting how the 1.0mm stub nib is tipped more like a cursive itallic than many other stub nibs I've used.

I did NOT buy these through MD but straight through FPR. Only writing as surprised by the negative reviews. Yes inexpensive, yes machining and finishing will not be perfect, yes they are light in weight; however, go on his site and watch the videos. I had ink drip out a few times and was all annoyed and then watched the video and he was correct, change in air temp with expansion of air and thus pressure. Holding pen tip up in my hand for just maybe 10-15 sec to warm it and no more drips. I did not even need to heat treat the feed. Also, put silicone grease (cheap at hardware store as he recommends although he does offer it through his site if you want) on threads and boom, watertight (ink tight) seal and I had no leak through pen connections. For price, these are very, very good way to try out FPs. Agree though with sentiment that MD just an extra middle man here.

The positives: I love writing with these pens! I ordered and received a blue caps flex and a red caps extra fine and they both write perfectly, loving that aspect.
The not-so-great: The celluloid smell coming off these pens is so strong it bothers my eyes, making them sting. This is especially true on the red caps model. I hope the smell dissipates soon as I really like writing with it.
On my blue caps model, the silicone grease on the piston was applied in a thick and gloppy fashion. It's kind of an eyesore to look at but it doesn't seem to be reacting with the ink so I'm putting up with it.
DSpaceNineHi DSpace, I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your Guru pens. You might try soaking the pens in a mild bleach water mixture overnight to help with the smell. It also decreases over time. And here is a video on how to disassemble the Guru so you can wipe off some of the extra silicone grease. Sorry we didn't notice that. https://fprevolutionusa.com/pages/fpr-guru-instructions-video

FountainPenRevolutionExcellent, thank you for the fast reply! I'll give these ideas a try. One thing is for sure, I intend to explore many more of FPR's pens, very impressed with the overall build quality.

BelisariusProblem promptly and graciously resolved. Great pens, especially at this price point. They are now IMHO the best bargain available.

Cannot recommend FPR pens enough. Best around for the price point. The only way to go for flex if you don't want vintage or something much more expensive. Kevin (and you will hear back from Kevin himself most of the time) puts an emphasis on customer service that cannot be quantified monetarily. Please support this company, try all the different pens (Jaipur is my fav), I bet you won't be disappointed.

so any word from massdrop if they will start including the new ultra flex nibs as a option?

Again with the high shipping fees. If your address doesn't end in "USA" you're probably better off buying direct from FPR where you can choose from their whole range of pens.

JaggiWow it's like drop shipping is adding a completely unneccessary person in the middle who just tacks on an avoidable fee.

Grabbed a Red Caps Demo Extra Fine and a Blue Caps Demo Flex, plus the Blue-Black ink. This will be the first FPR products I've owned. Really looking forward to playing around with the Flex nib!
