Product Description
Available in a variety of colors in both acrylic and ebonite, the Himalaya from Fountain Pen Revolution makes an eye-catching daily writer. It features a #5.5 nib, a sturdy metal pocket clip, and a screw-on cap that posts to add length and weight while you write Read More
Well the good news is that my order arrived early. The pens are really poor quality, the only thing good on them is the nibs, both wrote well from the start. I ordered the green and brown ebonite, both look and feel like plastic with an ebonite look. I have other ebonite pens and the difference is night and day. They both smell like body odor and the ink converters both leak. I can't fault drop for the pen issues, I guess for $22 a pen not much can be expected.
Great pen, but once again, this drop (May 2019) doesn't have the Ultra-Flex nib option. The Himalaya with the Ultra-Flex nib is the only current, inexpensive option that gets you a true flex experience. Otherwise plan on spending $100's of dollars or going vintage. The Flex nib option that is being offered is no better than a Noodler's Ahab or Zebra G option.
Still, it's a great pen at a great price. The Acrylic work on these is incredible. I haven't tried an ebonite but have read good things about it. Kevin, the owner of Fountain Pen Revolution is dialed in and provides some of the best support you'll ever run into. The nibs are sourced from the inexpensive Iridium Point Germany outlets but FPR claims that each one is checked and tuned before it's shipped and in my experience, I believe it.
Some of the FPR pens do have the "smell". I have several FPR pens and it appears to me that the cheaper pens do have a pretty substantial smell to them; I have 2 Indus and a couple of Mufts and they are smelly. They are crafted and built about as well as you would expect from a $10 pen. But the more expensive, turned acrylic pens are of much higher quality and lack the smell (Himalaya & Triveni). My Himalaya had a bit of smell at first, but I attribute that to being boxed with the complimentary Muft that was shipped with it. The smell soon disappeared from the Himalaya after being split off.
I just can't seem to pull the trigger on two of them if one of them isn't an Ultra-Flex nib.
Mine came through the door just now and I decided to return it after 5 minutes.
- First of all, it arrived in a minimally padded envelope.
- Also, one of them has very strong foul smell as commonly reported by the others.
- One of them has an indentation/chip on the barrel and I don't think is caused by transportation because the outer "package"(if any) arrived intact.
- I ordered a 1mm stub but it barely match up with one of my fine-medium (unless they put the wrong nib on it).
- The so called "flex" nib they simply make the slit longer throughout from top to bottom.
- One of the pocket clip is half-finished where the shape is similar to my cat's claws and I certainly don't want to use it to tear the fabrics of my shirts/bags.
- The company logo stamped on the metal band of the caps are of inconsistent.
Some might argue that these are meant to be inexpensive pens hence the compromised built. However, at the price point of each pen at US$20~25, there are many options out there with better quality miles ahead. So I'd recommend people to avoid this brand at all cost, to save yourself time and emotions.
Hello Kevin,
Thank you for proactively and promptly reaching out to the community, much appreciated.
I sent an email to MD support yesterday. Turned out they decline to issue a return ticket and offered either a PARTIAL credit ($20) or PARTIAL refund ($12) instead.
Speaking from experience, usually MD would provide full refund as well as take care of the return postage if the items are defective. In this case I cannot see any difference from the past.
As both of these pens are defective due to production issues, in addition to the misleading product descriptions (i.e. piston filler); I sincerely do not understand why your clients have to suffer the lost. No offence, but after the rather unpleasant as well as annoying experience with this drop, forgive me hesitating to give a second try on these pens. Thus, I would like to have them to be returned and FULLY refunded.
William_ShiuHi William,
Unfortunately, any discussion of a refund will have to be between you and MD. But if you want to email me at fountainpenrevolution@gmail.com I'm happy to discuss how we can get the defects taken care of.
All the best,
Kevin
I've been writing with Pilot Metropolitan for a while now and I love the experience. This drop should give me more to work with, as I want to use multiple inks at once + really wanted to try flex nib and FPR's ones come with good recommendation for a comparatively cheap price.
I've read some comments on FPR pens having a stink to them, but not about Himalaya and up, so I really hope they do not stink. I'm very sensitive to off smells.
phoenixsong@MrSharkbait Agree, they probably hide it on purpose. I bought Fountain Pen Revolution Indus fountain pens. The quality is absolute preposterous, no to mention the strong odor from them. Soaked it in soap water as they've suggested, I even just left it on my table for months and the smell was still there. Threw them eventually.
