Currently on sale direct from Fox Outfitters, plus BOGO, plus way more color choices, plus free shipping (at least it is to my location) plus quicker shipping turnaround, and I'm left wondering Why buy it here...
Another why: Fox Outfitters' warranty is one year. Why is this listed with a one year warranty from Massdrop instead?
Would really like to join on the drop, but it looks like I missed out on all the singles as they're no longer available :(
I'm planning on doing a little backcountry camping this summer (British Columbia, Canada) and wanted to try a hammock instead of a tent, sleeping bag, etc.
If you've bought this, what's the advantages of this hammock over the Grand Trunk Ultralight, which is only $20?

Anyone know if this hammock is good for sasquatch sized humans? I am 6'6" and 280lbs... It says a 400lb capacity, so that should be good, but will it be a good fit for a very tall guy with huge shoulders (about 35" wide at shoulders).?
If yes, I am likely to buy... I normally carry a 3 man tent for solo use, and 8lbs is a bit heavy, even for me.
Also, if anyone has a lead on AFFORDABLE (under $200) backpack sized sleeping bags for a giant... please mention it. I haven't found a packable bag yet that fits both my length and shoulders for under like $350. And that's not in my budget. 20 degree rating desired.

Did you ever get your answers my man? I'm also tall, but not a freak like you (:P) and need a specialty hammock and sleeping bag. I'm 6'2 and I have about an 18" width....how the fuck are you 35" across? Are you THE Mountain dude?
themoose
Have you heard of/ considered Enlightened equipment quilts? You can customize them. They have 4 widths, 5 lengths, wide range of temp ratings, and too many color choices. In down or synthetic Climashield. More than $200, but I highly recommend them.
are all the hammocks single layer? or are there double layer ones also?
Good hammock, like many others, highly recommend the add-on Vine Straps. In the included picture, I am in the middle hammock (ENO), and my buddy is in my hammock on the bottom from this drop (Fox Outfitters). No difference in quality between the ENO and this one. I also got the double, but maybe it is made for bigger people. It swallows me and my girlfriend, and is overall uncomfortable for the both of us to be in. If you're also small, I would forego the double to just get two singles.

How small is small? I'm 6'2 so I'm pretty tall, but I'm slim. I figured the double might be the best bet for me.

If you're just using it as something to chill in, I would probably still go with the regular. If you're looking for something to sleep in, double would probably be the way to go, but I can't overstate how wide the double is, if you just hop in and lay down in it, the two sides will come together and the hammock will make a cocoon around you. That was my experience at least

The group's bulk order arrived earlier to our warehouse in New Jersey and many of the individual packages have already shipped back out. However, upon taking inventory of everything received, our team was made aware of a backorder affecting a small handful of units. Rest assured, we've reached back out to the vendor to resolve this hiccup and expect to have the remaining units in our warehouse shortly.
Expect another update from us on 9/23 or sooner if something comes up.

$8.25 shipping on a 13 OZ item?
That doesn't sound right. There goes the savings of buying through Massdrop...
What is the total weight with hanging system.

As long as you have some strap going around the tree that's attached to the whoopie, fine.
scope
You really don't need tree straps from a bark preservation standpoint though some parks/areas require it. All you have to do is wedge short sticks (forked/stout/fat ones work best because they're less prone to slip/crush and fewer are required) between the cordage (at sufficient interval that the cordage doesn't contact the tree) and the bark to prevent it from cutting. I actually use straps (though I have considered removing them) but I do it often times because I use small tree straps and it's not uncommon for me to hang between at least one tree that my straps will not fully accommodate. The method described hasn't damaged a single tree yet.
So how would i buy the straps with just the plain hammock?
I have one of these (a double) and really like it. I've used it on 4 3-day excursions this year so far. It's every bit as good as an ENO, imo. I'd buy another if I needed another, esp at this price point...

I use an Ultimate Hammock (also available here) my friend uses an ENO Double Nest and we got my father the Double from Fox Outfitters. Quite honestly I'm fairly confident these are all made by the same/similar OEM. I like the Ultimate and Fox Outfitters more but that is just simply because they are longer and lower cost for the same/similar quality.
I can't tell, do the tree "straps" do anything? Looks like their more of a rope sleeve whereby the force is not spread over the flat surface of the strap. I hope I'm seeing that wrong, otherwise a big Fail.

What @LeftInTheDark said, "Highly recommend the tree straps for wider spacing /distance options between trees"
Laneyy
Nevermind, I see now there is a separate pic of the straps - very much like ENO Atlas straps. I was focusing on the bulk of other photos showing ropes with a sleeve looking thing around the tree, which appears to be mostly useless in terms of tree protection from the force of the ropes. Straps spread out that force along the surface area of the strap, thereby protecting the tree bark from that force. Did you know that your weight in a hammock puts a force of up to 1000 lbs on the straps. That's why any hammock should be sold with straps and no one should ever use ropes. While it is possible to have ropes attached to a strap that then goes around the tree, that doesn't appear to be the case with this hammock's main suspension. Still a fail IMO. But, hey, cheaper than buying an ENO and their straps. And a longer hammock, too. (more comfy)
Good entry level hammock. I use one in my house.

Here you go. I've been sleeping in a hammock almost every day for the past 5 months. I've not had any hammock related pain except for waking up with a sore neck two times. The mounting is overkill, but I do have great peace of mind that nothing will break. I have not had any ladies stay in the hammock with me. However, I do have an ENO Doublenest that was pretty comfortable with my ex and I. Your mileage may vary - depending on how comfortable you are being on top of one another.

I agree with the others. It's nice to see decent hammock body dimensions in this price range. These are far from being ultra light but would be great for backyard and car camping.
hammok bigots lol @LeftInTheDark @CalebK

Guilty as charged.
Hey everyone we’re excited to introduce hammocks from Fox Outfitters on our site. Great price and easy to set up!
Absolutely agree with LeftInTheDark. Good beginner hammock. Haven't tested them personally, but they appear long and wide enough to allow for a comfortable diagonal lay with a correct (30°) angle on the suspension. However, while nautical grade rope, steel carabiners, and daisy chain tree straps are functional they are not ultralight. Also highly recommend the daisy chain or other tree straps to increase hanging options. Anyone investigating hammocks should check out Shug Emery's hammocks for noobs series on YouTube.
CalebK
Shug ROCKS.
Seems like an ok entry level hammock, but I would not consider this ultra-light. Highly recommend the tree straps for wider spacing /distance options between trees.
