Does anyone know why they do not use an ETA 2824 in this watch? I love that movement (reliable, durable, cheap to service,...), and it seems foolish to make an in house movement at this price point (unless you are Seiko). I could understand going Myoda to save some coin, but if the movement is Swiss anyway, why not go 2824 and put more value into dial/case finishing?
SkipPeTechnically, they do. Well, they are modifying a clone of the ETA2824.
The FC-303 isn't really an in-house movement like Rolex, Seiko, et al. Like many companies these days (ie, Glycine GL224 movement, Oris 735 movement, etc), FC is taking a Sellita movement (http://calibercorner.com/frederique-constant-caliber-fc-303/) and slightly modifying it in order to change the name and infer that it is "in-house".
The SW200 they are using is essentially a less expensive clone of the ETA2824 (https://www.christopherward.com/blog/the-eta-v-sellita-story/ & http://watchflipr.com/movements/sellita-sw200-vs-eta-2824-2/) that came about when Swatch Group cut supply of the ETA movements.
Here is a list of equivalents:
ETA 2824 = SW200
ETA 2836 = SW220
ETA 2834 = SW240
ETA 2896 = SW300
ETA 7750 = SW500
SkipPeI think ETA being housed under swatch makes it hard to get . I think this why Tudor opted for in house movement on their new watches. Tag exclusively uses sw200 for their entry level aqua racer and carrera.

hortisimoBe careful with Jomashop. They often advertise watches that they do not have. I know someone who waited for two months before canceling an order.
I saw that they were purchased by Citizen, but why on earth would Citizen close the brand down after buying it? They are simply being purchased by a watch conglomerate, no different that Lange, Cartier or IWC (not that FC competes with such brands).
Their after market repair and maintenance will likely be BETTER than before as Citizen will likely expand the brand. This purchase is good for fans of Frédérique Constant.
FarragoI've owned both and the dial, applied markers and polishing on the FC is superior to the Tissot.
Tissot has a nicer engraved case back and better brand recognition however.
Movement and mechanical quality is more or less the same
lin.louisAbout $700 taxes in or bit more, I think Canada Post charged an extra $12 for handling fees. (Assume Custom charges 13% taxes) Bttm line it's better to buy in Canada if available, or Amazon.ca most of the time, it doesn't go through Custom.
I own a different Frederique Constant and I can say beyond that the finishing of these watches is truly top notch. Bands are really nice leather as well.
