I would rather MassDrop take more time to develop and offer products that have special features or are not easily available elsewhere for similar prices. I am a backpacking guide who took a Nikon D90 and a great Nikkor 18-200mm into the Grand Canyon dozens of times. That camera and lens took a lot of abuse through all types of weather even though neither were specifically weather resistant. They both finally bit the dust in Iceland after taking a long tumble onto some rocks. Especially after watching the video review, this is a disappointing drop. Give us a light, durable, weather ready, high-quality, versatile lens that functions well in non-ideal situations. That would be worthy of a drop and the type of specialty product on which MD should be focusing.

BackcountryToddSounds like this drop isn't for you, but there are plenty of us who are happy it's here. The Fuji X-T1 XT-3 series are weather resistant, and this lens on those bodies is a great combo despite the lens not being one of their WR line. I take it hiking and have taken shots in snow, fog etc. It works great, and the Fuji system is beloved by a big community.

"... the lens has a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 76 to 350mm, allowing it to cover everything from wide-angle to telephoto applications." No. I understand if you make this mistake once, but at this point you're just being lazy. 50mm isn't "wide-angle" even on a full-frame sensor. This is a telephoto-zoom, period. Offered at the same price at Amazon, so not much of deal here. https://smile.amazon.com/Fujifilm-50-230mm-F4-5-6-7-International-Warranty/dp/B01DUTTKWG/ This is basically the budget-friendly alternative to the XF 55-200mm F3.5-4.8. It's slower, but also almost 1/3rd the price of the XF lens. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01BXO2VYO/ I wouldn't even bother comparing it to the red badge XF 50-140mm or XF 100-400mm lenses, those are completely different lenses for a completely different market. I would, however consider if the XF 18-135mm would give you the reach you need. It's a faster lens, covers a wider zoom range (actually going from wide-angle to telephoto as the copy incorrectly suggests for this one), includes an aperture ring, has faster auto-focus, and is weather resistant. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07HKJK77X/ I use the 18-135mm as my default, every day lens. I switch to the 18-55mm or a prime lens for dimly-lit events or portraits where I want shallower DoF. If I need a little extra reach I use an adapted vintage 70-210mm F4-5.6 (which cost me all of $8 at a thrift store + about $30 for the adapter).

I have this lens and for the price it can't be beat. Yes, it is only 4.5 but for most applications that is fine. If you are thinking about getting this and have a Fujifilm X mount camera, you really should pull the trigger.

I have owned this lens for a couple of years, and like it very much for the following reasons:
  • It's relatively light (under a pound for a 350mm equivalent is pretty good) and compact (<4.5") for such long focal lengths.
  • It pairs well with the XF 18-55mm zoom, as it extends the zoom range from where that one leaves off; it's the same filter thread size (58mm), and both can fit well into the same accessory pouch.
  • Yes, it's a relatively slow lens, but for long shots I'm often bracing the camera or using a tripod, or not wanting to open up all the way (as depth of field is so shallow at long focal lengths); consequently that's not an issue for me. The Fuji XF 100-400 is a great lens from what I've read, but it's not much faster, almost twice as long, almost four times heavier, and costs 10x this price. For me $200 for this lens is a great deal!
My only complaint is that focusing is slow, and sometimes the lens 'hunts'. So it wouldn't be good for action or wildlife photography. Other than that, I find it a handy little telephot to carry along conveniently in a not-to-big accessory pouch. It may not be one of Fuji's "stellar" lenses, but it suits my purposes just fine, and at this price I think it's an incredible bargain!

@Massdrop please tell me these come with a warranty? i.e. will Fujifilm's 1yr manufacturer's warranty be honored--either through massdrop or otherwise-- despite them being international source?
Very happy to see more Fuji X mount lenses on MD! Fuji makes great lenses, but this is a very 'dark' lens. F4.5-6.7 would be quite dim on a full frame body. But with the crop factor taken into account the equivalence also affects the F stop, not just angle of view. I don't recall the exact math, but generally speaking add a stop or so. Making this more like F5.6-8. If you have an XT3 you can probably crank it up to 3200 ISO and be fine. But on older 16mp Fuji cameras like the Xpro1, XT1 etc you may be getting some noise by the time you are happy with your exposure settings.
