The driver and hardware of this headset is flawed in many ways. Logitech refuses to address the issues after four years and will not in the future. If these issues were fixed it'd be a REALLY good deal, however since these are present I'd recommend not purchasing one at this time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The driver forces the headset to be viewed as a 7.1 surround sound headset REGARDLESS of what mode it's in.
Consequences: Everything has to convert from 7.1 to stereo in the stereo mode, this has some audio artifacts. Stereo sound has a reverb when on (virtual) surround sound mode. This means if you're gaming in surround sound, your music and Skype calls will have reverb and not sound "right" at all.
2. When switching to stereo sound to fix the above issues, the (forced) 7.1 to stereo conversion is incorrect.
Consequences: The audio in games that support surround sound but don't let you force stereo mode is now broken. The "center" channel is only on the right, and the "subwoofer" channel is only on the right. This is absurd, but is unavoidable. It is probably a hardware issue. Games like Minecraft which do not let you force stereo sound are affected.
3. While playing both virtual surround sound and stereo audio, distortion and weird effects take place as if the headset was having interference problems.
This is a confirmed driver issue. Many people (me included) have found that extremely old drivers (which many cannot use because they do not support new Logitech devices) do not have this issue, and thus it is not caused by wireless interference.
4. Randomly the headset refuses to charge. If this is a manufacturing defect, it is very common and you should keep it in mind. Other common issues that might be defects include: Power button not working, battery life depleting quickly, battery gauge completely incorrect, battery life not as advertised.
5. The headset is VERY sensitive to 2.4 GHz interference and you will find your headset constantly disconnecting (taking ~7 seconds to reconnect) if you're near a router on that band or other devices that use that band.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The only solution to some of these problems is to go into device manager, and uninstall the Logitech driver, forcing it to use generic Windows drivers. This forces the headset to be viewed as stereo, but removes many of the Logitech features such as customizing buttons or seeing battery life. The disconnecting issue remains, and of course the hardware defects will as well.
I would love for Massdrop to boycott this product and many others until they see to these horrid issues and stop ignoring them.
