Why dont people judge them for the price and not compare them to zealios which are a dollar a switch.
Heres a question: How do these feel for the price you pay?

hmsaabI would guess because if you are willing to invest some money and wait this long for switches. It most likely is because you are an enthusiast and wan't an improvement / really good quality switch. If the switch was average then a much smarter idea would just be order the Gateron equivalent from KBD etc and still get it much faster.

Does this switch trade off scratchiness for wobble?

I wouldn’t recommend purchasing these. I’ve heard from a lot of people that the stem wobble and scratchiness of the housing results in horrible acoustics.

OldCatWouldn't kailh box switches be more stable and about as smooth as retool blacks?
Pre-retool blacks are rough, but nos vintage blacks aren't all that either (I have a wyse board that had a rubber condom on it, so the switches where well used but clean and they seem smoother than the nos blacks I have from 1995 or so)

Would these switches be an improvement over the kailh speed silvers that came on my ctrl? Or would I be better off getting the halos?
the speed silvers seem to have a somewhat high actuation point but they’re the only switch I’ve tried coming from a romer-g kb.

Based on what Zralph is saying I think he'll like the Halos. I have used Halo Clears, Halo Trues, and MX Browns and can say that vastly enjoy the Halos over the MX Browns. I am a bit of a heavy typer, but enjoy the actuation point and the force it takes to get there.

joda9692Out of those three, I too prefer Halos (True over Clear though), but just wanted to inform him that what might be an "improvement" suggested by you or me might not be for others. For example, many consider Zealios/Zilents the best unmodified switch, and while I do really like them, I found them too tactile to use in my daily driver. I'm more of an Aliaz guy.

I have them and a tester for a month+ now from the original GB, they're not that nice. wobbly stem with scratchy/rattling housing. not sure what went wrong with them. they came with a sheet of stickers, probably going to test that soon too, maybe that makes them okay. I would rather recommend retooled blacks on digikey and put in sprit springs and lube them good.

I was always under the impression that Zeal switches used polycarbonate housings, and cherry switches use nylon, and that's what attributes to the deeper sound the MX blacks make.

I'm not 100% on the polycarb but general cherry switches (not mx but they do all kinds of switches) are almost all (besides special purpose switches) listed as polycarb housings - same feel and color as black MX housings, the switches are less heat sensitive and the feel of the plastic is PC - generally PC is just a normal high performance plastic. on the other hand nylon is whats used by gateron for the transparent stuff. but of course that's all just common assumptions based on what people and companies generally use. (zeal said many times nylon, gateron once listed nylon, cherry uses generally polycarbonate for all kinds of switch housings)

Someone said these work with the CTRL. I just got my order, and they don't. There's prongs on these that prevent them from sitting in the CTRL.

Just recieved these and they are super smooth!!! Right up there with a fine batch of lubed vintage blacks. I have SIP sockets so will be saving these for a build where the mounting plate supports switch top opening.

it says it can't be used with smd leds, but it's a clear housing. Can these still work with smd?

delet_dIf the SMD LED is under the PCB, it can work. If it's on PCB, it's not possible.
