TL;DR: The lid is too small for the carafe, so it won't actually make foam. QC must be trash if they let something so wobbly out the door.
I don't know how others use theirs to get milk froth, but the one I just received turns 100% milk 0% froth into 90% milk 10% froth after pumping the thing until I'm so tired I can't close my hand. I tried using 2% milk cold, 2% milk warm, a mixture of 2% milk and a bit of flavored dairy creamer (Bailey's Creamers, which are wonderful because they actually use milk and cream instead of oils). The only one that sort-of frothed was the warm 2%.
I tried going slow the full height of the frothing chamber, I tried going hard and fast the full length, I tried slow and limiting the stroke to just about twice the height of the max fill line, and I tried that going fast. I don't know what else to do, but this doesn't work.
They advertise that the carafe is "hand-blown" glass, but what that has left me with is a plunger and lid that "just sit" in the container... Milk and bubbles foam out of the top of the carafe, and when the frother is empty the lid and plunger just flop around like they are meant for a smaller product. My guess is that the lack of a tight fit makes it so most of the milk and air just go around the plunger instead of through the mesh.
The only good thing I can say about it is that the carafe and the rubber base that fits to the bottom are beautifully made. Sadly, the lid and plunger are cheap plastic-y crap you'd expect out of China. It came with no instructions, so when I couldn't get it to work, I had to look to Youtube to teach me something that was obviously supposed to be so simple that no instructions were needed, which made me feel like I was an idiot.
