rdodevNo, the description says they are made in Germany. Meanwhile, may I suggest aviod implying “everything made in China are inferior“ in your question next time. You could have simply asked “Where are these manufactured?” Thanks!

Der_KlaviermannAlmost everything made in China is indeed of inferior quality. Very few notable exceptions.
Thanks for pointing out where these were made, though, I completely missed it in my read-through.

rdodevWhile I would not complete disagree with you, it really depends on the types of product, brands, companies and so on. Many notable audio companies still set their factories in China. A few of them are even from China, e.g. HiFiMan. Also, it also depends on the company’s policy on quality control. If a company has poor quality control policy, it does not matter where the product is made. In addition, it is extremely difficult to keep productional cost low when a company produce all their product outside of Asia. I have a pair of Audeze headphones that have issue twice. They are made in the US. Does that mean things that made in the US suck too? No. I only wish people would keep an open mind and not make any generalised statment quickly.

Der_KlaviermannLet me put it this way. The same product/brand made in EU or US vs. made in China I pay the premium for the ones built in in US and EU. Is it a guarantee that they'll be superior quality? No, but the probability of getting something with shoddy workmanship is _much_ lower than with the same product manufactured in China. They say "vote with your wallet" and that's what I do.

rdodevI will pay more for EU and Japanese product. US product? maybe. US handmade products are usually durable but lack of fineness, very common to look big and rough.
A lot people have the impression that Chinese product is cheap in quality. It is not entirely true, the fact is Chinese factories are capable of making good quality product, the reason why some Chinese products are cheap is because there is market demand for cheap products. People buy them, that why the factories make them: ). Sometimes cheap quality products just make sense. I like my 1 dollar tape measure and 2 dollar tool set made in China, I only use them once or twice and I can toss them anytime I want, practical and easy for the pocket. It's pretty amazing that they can still make profit at such prices:). I am grateful for this.

ccc888I don't disagree with that. For cheap, disposable or low cost things, I don't care where things are made. They're easily replaceable. For premium stuff I expect to last several years, I buy from countries that generally have a tradition of careful work and take pride in quality (I forgot Japan, but great point, they have excellent track record).

ccc888A lot of fine audio equipment is a made in the US, ie Audeze, ZMF, Mr Speakers, etc., . I'd definitely buy their products if I could afford them, especially ZMF. (Schitt, though, is as you describe; it's kind of like a Corvette-- a lot of bang for your buck, but rough around the edges) But I agree with you that "Chinese made" does not automatically mean inferior quality, especially in the world of personal audio. Some of the best audio gear is coming out of China.. Personally, I love Cayin and iBasso... and both Fiio and Hifiman have really stepped up their game.

rdodevIt depends on what we are discussing and comparing. I have bought many electronics designed and built in China over the past decade that have been ultra reliable and enjoyable.

rdodevCountry of origin these days isn’t a good indication of quality, have to remember just about every thing can be manufactured in China now. They have access to the exact same tools and machining as any other place, not to mention materials too. Take a look at idevices and many other electronic gadgets, China. Take a look at many $200+ knives, you guessed it, made in China (and in many cases an American name, but made in China by We knives, Reate knives)
There‘s so many other examples of companies moving production(or even starting production) over in China.

Der_KlaviermannHiFiMan products from my experience are a disgrace. Mine have ALL fell apart or sound had become distorted in less than 1-6 months. All thru Amazon uK.
re-400 left ear broke apart within 6 months he-400s sound became distorted at 60% above volume in 3 weeks he-400s bought again as loved the sound when it worked... and I'm SURE they gave me the exact same pair back as the volume still became distorted at 60% volume and above. I know it wasn't my gear as I tried with many sources and my friend didn't have the same issues with his.

mattc50101Yeah they got that history, and I believe it, but I can say that the 4XX does not look or feel cheap. I've had mine for nearly 6 months and I use it regularly--it's not falling apart and it sounds fine... maybe because Massdrop was involved?
