Just goes to show what sad state of affairs the PC community has been reduced to when people say a GPU hundreds of dollars ABOVE MSRP is a "deal" cause all of the other prices are even more grossly marked up. If you want an actually good price, you're gonna have to wait. Don't settle, don't compromise - cause only you lose as the consumer. Next architecture of GPUs won't save you either - you'll be paying even more MSRP for less generational gains in contrast to the Maxwell or Pascal jumps. This price as well as others are ludicrous.

CaliberXlxIn some cases, one can buy a brand new PC with a GTX 1060, 1070 or 1080 for the price of the current cards. THAT is a smarter thing to do, if one MUST spend the money.

MustangYeah, while pre-builts are a better idea, you get the same fundamental problem of pre-builts - you still overpay as the maker wants to make a profit building those machines. An even better idea would be reasoning with the sales people at Micro Center to honor their program of getting the other PC parts in order to get a msrp priced GPU. It's worth a shot.

CalisYour opinion, of course. And I think you're wrong. I've owned Dell computers before, and they are good, even with their own brand of motherboard and cheap power supply. I still own a Core i7 XPS system that I used for over 7 years until I built my recent Core i7-8700K/GTX 1080 Ti system.
Yes, computer makers have to make money, and at the moment these mass computer builders have access to high end video cards at a much cheaper price point than the average consumer. The idea is worth considering. Perhaps not for the narrow of mind, but for those who look for choices, well worth considering.
