killertrustYou're so funny! I bought my MSI 1080 Gaming X just 2 weeks ago for $620 and now it's $670, what makes you think that the price is going down? If you're waiting to buy the used mining cards, then good luck with them, lol

FakerVIf crypto prices are coming down, and miners are trying to sell their cards (i dont know if this is the case), you wouldnt see a drop in sales prices for NEW cards for a while, you would see them drop first on ebay and other second hand marketplaces. my point: I don't know if the person you replied to is wrong, but the manner in which you attempted to disprove him is flawed irregardless.

killertrustI'll pass on burnt up mining cards and would suggest everyone else do the same.
The price on this drop isn't terrible, but if people want to wait out the mining craze then why not just wait for new cards to start retailing for MSRP again instead of paying more now/soonish for some miner's crappy used card?

LevelSteamI'd honestly rather buy a used card from a miner than a gamer. Running at 100% while underclocked/undervolted is usually better than fluctuating between being idle and being pushed to high overclocks.

FakerVI sniped a 1080 FTW edition on EVGA website the other day for $649. Next day it went up to $699.
Prices aint going down anytime in 2018. If you cant beat am, join them. I'm mining an altcoin with a 1050 1060 and 1080 and at current valuation, its earning me $300 a month. When the value of the coin increases, so will my profitability and will more than cover the costs of the GPUs. Cryptocurrency is here to stay and even if the current coins become to difficult to mine GPUs by the end of the year, new coins will be introduced.
The value of GPUs are greater now, that will not change ever again. Even when new model GPUs come out, they'll fly off the shelves as the 10 series will continue to as people build 300+ card mining farms.

NaughtMy issue is that I have no way of knowing what conditions those cards have been running in and no reason to take a miner at their word that it was underclocked/undervolted. Cards are just disposable assets to them that they plan on dumping eventually, and with the market what it is right now they know that all they have to do is list a card below the grossly inflated market price and it will move in an hour anyway. There's no incentive for them to treat their equipment well, it's just a means to an end to them.
Gamer cards can definitely be burnt up from being overclocked to hell and back or just improperly, but in both cases if I'm rolling the dice on a heavily used card I will go with a gamers card every time rather than helping miners unload their dying investments.

LevelSteamnot dieing investments just less value in thoes cheaper graphics cards ..... crypto currency will never die it will be the most respected currency considering considering that the value started in computation power ...... and now that there is enough bitcoins being bought not just mined ... its value per dollar went down ... but um just so you know its suppose to do that ... concidering 1 bit coin is worth 9,000$right now but if you get bitcoin b4 its value gets diminished by money in the future you 1 or 2 bitcoins will be projected to be worth more and more . as its suport grows ... it will be universal currency based on computation ... not how much gold we have because we value gold for some dumb reason ... it promises level out the economy because in 2040 no new bit coins will be created ...... make the value of certain things go down and other things go way up .

AxionWhat coin are you mining? With the current major drop in prices I'm now only getting about 150/mo profit (zec) after electric, with nearly 3x your mining power (~2800 sols). So something doesn't add up.

M3D1T8RRather not say the coin as encouraging more to the mining pools will only hurt me in the long run. Yes, the coin did take a small hit with the drop, so I may be down to $250 a month. I have really cheap electric and free electric between 8pm-5am as a special on my account, so it helps keep the costs down. Im not too concerned with today's rates but more about future rates. As of today, upgrading to the 1080 was worth it. I wont be building a full rig ever, but the gear I do own will pay for itself sooner rather than later.
