When I ordered mine from Nancy's Notions they did not even sell replacement blades with it.

Seam Rippers are much better when dealing with delicate materials (like quilting cotton). If you're tearing the seams out of denim (or in the video's case, a really old and torn jacket), you're less worried about accuracy.
Also if you're ripping a lot of seams, the seam ripper is a lot easier to handle given it's designed to be held in your hand, versus a box-cutter which is designed to use the minimal amount of plastic required to safely encase a long blade. This optimization allows it to be produced for the cheapest possible price, which isn't something enthusiasts typically are fond of.
Cheaper? yes. Better? unlikely.
