Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. I received the March 2018 RGB TKL Customized model and built it with my own iKBC PBT keycaps, and used Kailh Box Browns as the switches. As I was building it, I noticed the stabs already had grease, and when I put the switches and caps on, the space bar, and shift keys sounded so much nicer than the original, even newer model's YouTube sound tests, and both my Corsair K70 and CM Masterkeys Pro S. It was shocking how nice it sounded.
I asked the company in email and on twitter if they changed something without announcing it, and their response was " We have been reading the feedback from our customers, and have taken it to heart. We increased our QC efforts and have 'Polished' the newest boards being shipped out. The older inventory will be gone soon, and then only the 'Polished' boards will be on both our website and amazon. " No explanation from him on what 'Polished' meant btw. Here's hoping you all get the newest boards on this drop.
Cons: The software leaves much to be desired though, and is microscopic on 4K screens. The base plastic is still pretty light and doesn't leave much room for sound deadening. I'm also having trouble finding any replacement case I can use to dress this up at a later date.
