I do not understand the purpose of this, the entire point of an expensive DAP like A&K models is that the onboard DAC and amp circuitry is top-notch. If you're bypassing all of that, you might as well use a way cheaper DAP. It's basically a $500 extremely bulky battery pack that renders $800 of your $1000 DAP pointless. Even if it's slightly better, there is absolutely no way that it will make an audible improvement. If the A&K players are not completely transparent, at their ridiculous price point, you shouldn't buy one in the first place because they're clearly way overpriced. This is a $500 band-aid to a problem that, if it does exist, shouldn't. To each their own...
KieranAs with any new product category (and CEntrance is well-known to break new ground with innovative products) let's make sure we understand what this product actually is.
GloveAudio A1 is NOT a "battery pack". It's an outboard DAC and balanced AMP for the AK100 / AK120 players. And because it's built do do one thing well, it excels at being an awesome DAC.
A lot of people purchased these nifty music players from AK only to realize that while the interface is great and the player is quite usable, the DAC and audio circuitry leave a lot to be desired. Now these people have an amazing opportunity to upgrade the sound quality of the player by adding an external DAC, which is housed in a protective case, that also fits the player.
The press is raving about the DAC quality -- it rivals desktops, so yes -- an amazing improvement in SQ, while you get to keep your investment in the player. This combo in some respects sounds even better than the flagship AK240. Compare $449 to the cost of a new AK240 (over $2400) and you immediately see that this makes a lot of sense.
Side note: A1 does have a rechargeable battery, but it's used to power the built-in DAC and Amp. It's not used to power the player.

KieranI feel the same way. Does anyone remember this product ? they are theses stones you put on your cables and its suppose to make your sound be better ? AHAHHAHAHAH XD Man sometimes i think audiophiles buy the most stupid shit, and they talk about how they play music in the MOST high def form matte and i'm thinking whats the Point the human ear can't even hear some of them super highs and or the really lows but i will give you you can feel the lows. Whats the point of buying this product if you have a good dap player all ready ? No way i'm using 600ohms headphones "on the go" they are for home use thats what they are best for.
search
And another thing Massdrop is a site so we can vote on what we want to buy not what you want to push on us or what ever deal you guys make with a company to try see what new product you can push on us.

Acidtrip69Nobody is telling you to buy it, let alone be on the product page. unlike your rocks, this actually makes a difference. The use of being able to drive headphones up to 600 Ohms comes when people take these things to meet ups. Have this thing, and you don't even have to bother and take a full size Amp and DAC with you. If i had one of the players, this would be a sure buy since i could actually see the use of this, especially when on long trips. You're as ignorant as those Game developers saying that 24 FPS is cinematic in a game.

NinjasquirrelNo way i'm as stupid as the 24fps game devs. I'm just practical
edit: wait at the meets i think vendors all ready bring their high end products like dac and amps ? so what the point you can just bring your good headhphones and just connect it to their products to try out.
Acidtrip69Hey, look -- this is an excellent accessory for those who are not satisfied with the sound of the AK120. If you ARE already satisfied, or if you don't have an AK120, this product is not for you.
