only ONE "purist" option...

BrtoTake a look at the current Glycine lineup and notice the % of purist models -v- GMTs. That would seem to be the way they are going under Invicta's ownership.

Makes me happy I bought a discontinued Airman 18 purist recently

Mouse8459Such a shame to see what invicta is doing to glycine. Their watches were simple and elegant. Now they look just like invicta's stuff with busy faces that serve 0 use. For me, I liked glycine for their 24 hr sweeps. Not with only one purist option (which I'm sure will disappear soon) they are something else. im so glad I got in on the first massdrop they did with glycine on the airman 22. Got a purist with the crown logo and love it. Unfortunately, I wouldn't buy a glycine now with all the changes.
I also wish glycine would realize its stupid to offer a watch with 24 hour markings and a 12 hour sweep. Why can't gmt models use a 24 hour sweep on both the hour and gmt hands? That would be really cool.

VerwilderdThey don't offer a 24 hour main hour hand and a 24 hour GMT hand because that would mean serious re-design of the base ETA 2893 movement that the Glycine uses. At the moment it's easy - the (disappearing) "purist" models have the main hour hand running off the post that would normally have the GMT hand. In the GMT models, the main hour hand reverts to the 12 hour post and the GMT sits on the 24 hour post. I believe Glycine did have a short-lived, limited edition double 24 hour model in the past, but it didn't sell for long and to my way of thinking is far too complicated :). For 99% of people, 99% of the time, 2 timezones is probably sufficient.
Another nice feature of the older designs is they featured a fully numbered 24 hour main dial. The new ones only seem to have every second number. I just guess that's the way Invicta want to go.

Mouse8459To confirm, the "Glycine GL293" is an ETA 2893? Is it a real ETA manufacture or one of the new companies (Selita, Soprod,...)? This is a great price for an ETA 2893.

SkipPpTo the best of my knowledge, the GL293 is based on the ETA 2893. A Google search should bring you all the information you need. How much Glycine changes it beyond the rotor engraving and how much (if anything) is done in-house as opposed to being done by ETA and delivered is beyond my knowledge. I haven't heard anything about Glycine using other movement manufacturers, but my lack of a definitive answer is no indication they do or don't.
