Is it a 12 hour or a 24 hour? I dunno...I'd never be caught dead with one of these. I own a real DC-4 with 24 hour purist movement. This one can't have a purist movement because it is a freaking 12-hour watch with 24 hour outer bezel. Makes no sense and makes a bit of a mockery of the Glycine brand.
While I like the look of the Glycines and the price point they are in, I've been less than happy with them out the box. I've purchased a Combat 6 moonphase that had some lint/debris under the crystal. Works perfectly, but terribly annoying. I also purchased a Date 22 Purist.....which came with misaligned hands. Kept perfect time, but was a real pain in the dick to read. Both were fixed locally by my watch guy for a fee less than what would have cost to send them back to Glycine for repair. Just a heads up for those about to click "join drop"
Drilled lugs, a severe discount, what’s not to like? A budget buster for me but I’ve waited too long for this ideal GMT. The right diameter, the right movement and the right configuration and finish. A no brainer for me. Got mine!
Where is the purist version?
Can someone tell me the different between these two watches? Is it just the band color different? Are the date in red color on both watches?
I have been waiting for the Glycine DC-4 to be offered on MD again. But with all the bad feedback and reviews, I am not proceeding with the order. It is just too dicey.
With all these QC issues: no thanks!

The arms being out og sync is a PITA, especially on a brand new watch. But, resetting the arms is a $10 fix at your local watchmaker... that’s a lot less hassle than returning it or having it serviced on warranty.

Agree but who wants to buy a brand new watch only to have to run down to the watchmaker. Should come out of the factory having been tested imo.
My watch arrived a few days ago while I was out of town. This morning I was able to unbox it and quickly realized that my 24 hr. hand isn't in sync either. It lags about 15 - 20 minutes behind. I'm a little annoyed that Glycine would release watches like this to customers.

You can see on my photo below that my 24-hour hand is 10-15 minutes ahead. Strange.

And once more DHL lost my watches. Waited 6 weeks and now they find out again the watches are stolen by DHL this is the second time. Please use UPS i would be happy to pay some additional cost. Received my payment back from Massdrop great service but i prefer to have my order delivered.
So my glycine arrived at my doorstep in Singapore at record time (1 week). It's a gorgeous watch and though I'm certainly happy to get my watch so early, I'm not too glad with the additional fee of $70 which was charged on delivery for me to get the watch. This fee was to cover the UPS worldwide expedited shipping, but I'm curious if this normal? Does massdrop use expedited shipping at random without any prior notice? For my countless drops in the past, I've never been hit with a charge on delivery fee or had my items shipped using the expedited service. And if I'm paying a delivery fee upon collection, why did I pay for shipping and handling through massdrop ?
Any advice from the community would be greatly appreciated.
My DC-4 Purist arrived today. Beautiful, stunning watch. Everything is fine so far. It's working correctly on 24h base. The minute hand is slightly offset by 3-5 Minutes in relation to hour hand. No drama. I already had brand new Seikos with hands up to 7 minutes offset. Maybe I will let the local watchmaker correct this.
Just got the DC-4 this morning from the last drop. It is my third Glycine after a Combat sub and an Aquarius. Sadly found that the hour and the mintue arms are not aligned at 2400. Which means the hour arm is never pointing to its right position. Would massdrop or anyone suggest what can I do? I am in Hong Kong. Thanks.

Yeah, here too. My hour hand is lagging some 20 minutes. With a 24 hr dial, this can get confusing. I am in Europe.
So my DC-4 Purist arrived from Evine today. Paid $477.44. I'm returning it for refund though. Even if I got it at real good price, I didn't like how it looked and felt in person.

Dang. Besides it not being to your liking did you notice any issues with build quality or any defects?
jajahamas
Everything else seemed okay. I didn't see the issues some people mentioned. Here's an in depth review I read and I agree with his negative view on DC-4. https://smalltoysforgrownmen.wordpress.com/2017/07/25/glycine-airman-dc-4-gl0071-review/
Beware, the hour and minute hands on my DC-4 purist do not align. When the minute hand is pointing at 60, the hour hand is pointed half way between 1 & 2 o'clock. After contacting IWSC in Utah, I basically have to pay a $28 service fee just to have them inspect it. I shouldn't have to pay out of pocket to have a defective watch inspected and then possibly have to pay additional repair fees to have it the way it was suppose to be. Watch was purchased last drop, barely worn and basically brand new.
Here's a suggestion MD, and I'll give you more if you employ me: why don't you present a kind of 'no-complaint-to-purchase ratio' so people get the idea of how successful the purchase is going to be? Presumably you would always do your best to make the best deal with the vendor, so most of the problem is going to be primarily with the vendors anyway, right? As it is, I think the voice of the opposition is way too loud--and I think it's driving away your customers. To be honest, if the deal wasn't as good as this, I wouldn't have made the leap either .
Found a better deal at Evine with 15% coupon code. It's out of stock now.
does anyone have any insight if the Glycine quality issues are limited to Massdrop watches or if the quality of Glycine just has deteriorated? I really have been looking into a Glycine but have zero appetite to deal with warranty issues that have been described here. Would it be less of an issue if the watch is purchased from another vendor or can one expect similar issue. Any information would be great.

thank you for the feedback appreciate the detail. There are so many good watches in this price range that I will just pass on Glycine. not worth the hassle for me.
thanks for the feedback.
I have one from the last drop its PERFECT looks great and had not one problem with it.
Was so excited to see this drop (after requesting recently) and literally had my credit card out, but super bummed to see the comments about the build quality.
My quest for a gmt continues...
Is the quality of DC4 really so bad? I just cancel my order...

As was feared.

I'm enjoying my DC-4 - while I had a QC-related issue, I'm pleased with the watch. It looks fantastic and is nicely finished. I would have paid far more than the drop price for it, under normal circumstances, but with what I experienced and other have reported, it's a lovely watch with a risk profile.
Now that mine had been repaired, it has a value much higher than the drop price, to me.
I hope the reported issues are not systemic. It would be nice to see one in an AD, to get a better feel for Glycine products as they should be. However, none within a few hundred miles, so I took my chances and a lower prices.
I'm thoroughly satisfied with what I got for the price. If it was perfect, out of the box, I would have considered it a gift, at the drop price.
IWSC has not responded to me yet. On their survey, I stated what has happened but not sure if it would be read. WUS forum thread wrote about nightmare with IWSC, so I may just keep what I got it back as it at lest addressed alignment. In two days, it was 20 sec faster. I blame on watch shipped without being protected. Love the watch itself but buyer beware.
What about warranty in Europe ? anyone ? From the comments it looks like people have quality problems with this one
LukeJan
Yeah the only comments since last drop were QC related.
Given these comments, it makes me wonder if massdrop gets the short end of the inventory, like watches that have already been returned from other vendors for finnecky reasons. That stock usually end up back in rotation until someone is willing to accept it... like someone that got a $150 discount. Just a conspiracy theory, but there is a high volume of defects and the warrantee cards Are sometimes weird or missing. It would also explain the weirdly low quantities of different models.
My experience with IWSC. Everything was fine until I opened delivered box. I felt something was loose inside of box. It was USPS Priority mail box (small Cardboard box). I saw my watch without any protection. When I sent my watch, I boxed twice with multiple packing and thick bubble wrap. They sent me back with no protective packaging. Period. Hour and minute hand alignment issue is solved but did not address Lume on dial, faint scratched on dial which can be see when you tilt watch in certain angle. Date change one hour before 12 is not 5 minutes after 12. I don't know if that is caused by them sending my watch without any proper packaging and I would not doubt impact to movement. Also hour hand is not parallel to the dial so that tip is slightly slanted upward. Overall, it is very unsatisfying and I notified them about it, We will see how they respond. It takes several days for them to respond email....
Just wanted to update regarding warranty service. So far, IWSC accepted service under warranty so that is a relief. It would take 2-3 weeks for them to replace movement, QC, then ship it back. Hopefully, everything would be good.

My DC-4 came back to me and is now working on my wrist. The support of IWSC Hong Kong was nice. Thank you again for your kind help!

Awesome!!! I am happy to hear that it is working now! Wear it well! I am enjoying mine as well.:)
I received my DC-4 Purist today. But the hands do not move even for 1 second after I shook it gently for more than 5 minutes. Do I need to send it back to repair center at somewhere? Are there any special trick to start it? (I don't believe so.)

Thank you for the valuable information. I haven't known IWSC because I'm new to this deep watch world. I'm gradually understanding that the world of watches might be much attractive and dangerous than the world of headphone audio.
minmsee
I will be in that shoes when I dive into Audio world! I would certainly ask for your help! ;)
Just want to update that I sent in my DC-4 Purist to IWSC in Utah and it's been approved for warranty repair. The hands were not aligned. The hour hand is about 15 minutes behind. I also mentioned the slight play in the bezel but it's not a big deal. So we'll see what happens.
mmok
Same here. They say movement needs replacement under warranty. finger crossed...

I had this same problem, though mine did not arrive like that, I just picked it up one day and saw it was off. I sent it to IWSC and the new movement was approved and replaced under warranty. Took about 3 weeks but it's been fine ever since. I had it fixed last fall.
Does anyone’s GMT timekeeping works accurately? I’m wondering if it’s a poor design or a QC control. The gear ratio seems to be wrong and mine does not show accurate GMT time.
afshin735
Finaly decided to send it back for a refund. Too many damn problems with the Glycines. I’ve bought two and both had problems and I had to send them back. THIS WAS MY LAST GLYCINE!
afshin735
How were you able to do that?
Received my DC-4 Purist a few days ago. Keeping good time. Everything seems as it should be. Thought the warranty pack was missing but found it hiding inside the cardboard watch box lid. Bezel moves freely when unsecured by bezel lock. And movement is almost silent when winding but like I said all seems fine. For the price, I am really pleased to own this 24 hour vintage inspired piece. Love the Glycine logo and fonts on this one.

Lucky you... Even sending brand new watch for service is not without a hitch..... As much as I like Dc-4, this will be my last Glycine....totally disappointed with QC....
Joe-cool28
That's not good. Sure, all brands below a threshold are not infallible. I seem to be lucky on this batch of DC-4 watches. Very pleased with mine. It joins my Airman 17 which is also awesome.
