I have had an eye on this brand, Glycine, for a time now. But how can it be that the price is reduced this much, are these timepieces defective in someway ?
DriftWoodTrue. But so far Glycine is operating independently. Here are some of the reasons why I think it is a good value:
- This model uses a 'workhouse' Swiss movement from ETA
- The movement is mounted in a shock protector
- It has a sapphire crystal over the dial
- The fit and finish is consistent and excellent
I challenge you to find a watch with similar characteristics for ~$325 shipped. If you have a suggestion, I am all ears, and would be happy to cancel my order (sorry Massdrop).
dholik8503I am no expert. Googled around this morning and it looks to me that Glycine is operating independently and that there are no meaningful changes to manufacturing. But perhaps an expert can speak up.
dholik8503As far as I know the director in charge of the acquisition is a fan of Glycine's brand and DNA and is aiming to change as little as possible.
Baselworld this year should clear up a lot of questions about this, but as of now it seems like Glycine is still operating independently.

Vincent.HThanks! I'll keep up with the coverage. It's fun drooling at all the $100,000 watches. 😊

Ashford had a sale last week on Hamilton Khaki Navy Sub for $339 or $289 after Amex offer. Albeit different in style and size the Navy Sub is better build watch than this Glycine.

The sale is over now but if you are watch aficionado you can find a lot of high quality watches that suit you style and hands size and at very good prices. The Asian markets downturn make great opportunity for watch lovers to buy their toys.
brainwaveYes, the obvious contender in this price category is Hamilton, in particular their khaki auto. I'm surprised you say the build is better on the Hamilton--I read a bunch of reviews on Hodinkee, etc., that suggested build quality was roughly comparable. Any specific differences in mind?
kaxixiThe build quality of Hamilton varies between their lines, they have some more expensive better builds and some less higher quality cheaper watches.
I was addressing the particular comment regarding the build quality/ price ratio of Combat 6 vs. other watches within competitive price. This Combat 6 is priced accordingly IMO compared to other similar Swiss watches on the market. It's a good watch that probably should be inline with less expensive watches in Hamilton Jazzmaster series.
I have Navy Sub Hamilton and its build quality is terrific and compares favorably to watches costing as much as five times more.
MD Glycine prices are ok, but Invicta now clearing their old inventory and these watches can be get at good price elsewhere. If you're in the market for Glycine look at ToMo they regularly feature Glycine at great price.
kaxixiI have many Glycimic from year 2000 to 2004 and non of them were 50 meter, all of them were from 100 meter and beyond. Now I like this watch very much. And was looking to get a tag very similar for price 1,500. But the face of the tag one is Al solid black the other still black with round texture Wich is great looking.
