So some of you have lost out on the Golden Eye and are a little disparaged :(
Perhaps, I can cheer you up and suggest alternatives? Like the Seiko Sumo which you can find for around the same price as the Glycine.
If you compare the ETA 2824 which is called GL224 in this watch, and the Seiko 6r movement -> You'll find the glycine can be adjusted far easier by a micro adjustment lever it has (probably w/in 5 seconds a day) by a service professional in your area. The 6r cannot, but is more durable and requires less service over the long run. --> So if you don't get it serviced, in that case it's a crapshoot and probably 50/50 odds as to which is more accurate but the Seiko is more durable and requires less maintenance.
Furthermore, the Glycine is now owned by Invicta which is known for making big ugly watches. What that means we'll see but it can get bad.
Lume: Nothing tops Seiko :) it'll literally go all day. Meanwhile, the combat sub, w/ SuperLuminova  I believe, is okay on the hands and maybe 1/2 hr on the dial.... which isn't bad but nowhere near Seiko ;)
--> So maybe consider the Seiko line of dive watches. you'll be pleasantly surprised ;-)
W/ that said the remaining stock Massdrop has of the combat sub is still a very nice watch... if you truly want it, you won't be let down. (Unless, you look at it every time and think man.... I didn't get the one I want and I settled on this -> In that case just move on and don't buy an alternative till you've moved on emotionally from this lost opportunity :D )

SpiritOneI think what is hard for people about letting this one go is that the watch was originally around the 1k price point and competes very well against watches in that price point, beating out (imo) the squale etc.. I don't think it will be possible to find better value for money, but of course if you really hate the leather strap version it's not worth it.

RossfI won't necessarily disagree, but anyone who paid 1k for this watch really refused to shop around.

SpiritOneNowadays absolutely! A few years ago though 7-800 was the best deal you could find. I'm sure This current clearance of stock is to do with Invicta, but I won't complain.

RossfI don't know I'd say around $600 wasn't impossible (even a few great deals under that for the lucky few). Glycine has a tendency to blow out remaining stock before bringing in the new stuff. https://camelcamelcamel.com/Glycine-3908-19At2-C-Mb-Combat-Automatic-Stainless/product/B01N2ZERZI
Anyhow, imho the biggest shortcoming is really the movement inside this watch. The ETA 2829 is a HUGE step above the 2824 and it's beyond me why the combat sub doesn't incorporate it.
I own a Tissot Le Locle which has the same grade 2824 as the combat sub (as far as I'm aware) and can't claim I'm overtly impressed. Nothing against it but compared to the 6r15c in my Seiko Sarb 035 and 017.... well I like the high beat it has but it's a bit more rough to hand wind and has 22 hours less of power reserve.
ETA 2824 vs 2892 http://www.asthewatchturns.com/?page_id=112
Anyhow, I agree that anyone interested in the combat sub should buy the leather strap version.

SpiritOneNice references, the feedback on its movement seems to be pretty mixed. Also thanks for the camel link was not aware that resource existed, very interesting!

SpiritOneJust looks like it'd suite my wrist so well tho! I do want the gold eye tho.. Been regularly refreshing ever 30 mins and every 3 hours at night to see if I can get one lol
SpiritOneIsn't the movement in the Combat Sub made in house rather than an ETA movement?

SpiritOneNever in a month of sundays will a 6R mvmt be as nice as the 2824 in the Glycine, Yeah, a little more time between services possibly sure. But the 2824 is seperior in every way.

MTimeThanks, care to back that up?
No service straight out the box. The difference isn't great.
Edit: Nothing against the 2824-2 it's a solid movement and well decorated in the Glycine. However, it's a workhorse movement from the Swiss. Not exactly a top end caliber. W/ that said most people aren't aware the 2824 comes in different grades and the top end is on par (in regards to accuracy to the top end 2829).

SpiritOneI dont have too back it up. They can be regulated better are less prone to positional deviation. Thats why Seikos plus minus tolerance is so big. i have respect for 4r movements but seriously as good as an ETA 2824?? What is it plus 45 - minus 20 sec per day to be within limits or around there give or take. 21,600 TO 28,000 may bode well for service intervals but it doesnt look as nice as a steady sweep. The Sumo is nice if you dont want sapphire and a undersized lug width along with a generic bracelet i guess..

SpiritOneI stand corrected as well as the 6r Variant is a big step over the the 4r series of movements but given the choice i would still take the 2824 over both of them.
MTimeThis discussion is over my head. How good is the grade of 2824 that is in this watch? Bear in mind that I have a couple of 1950s Omegas that haven't been serviced in 20 years and keep perfect time. Is this movement that good?

michaelbooherattorneyIf its a base EtA 2824-2 which is what i believe Glycine uses than its very good. It isnt the top off line 2824 but in reality it doesnt matter as that version is COSC certified along with some other slight mods possibly. Glycine does have their name on the rotor which is a nice touch and a step up but is merely cosmetic. I dont know if they tweek it anyway but possibly they might. I have a 2824 that runs plus 1 second over 24hrs so while not all the same its nice to know with tweeking they can be adjusted to COSC specs. Most people have this Movement serviced every 4-6 years but they can go longer say 5-7 years no problem. Its a solid swiss Movement with a proven history. Many clones are made of it so that says alot.

michaelbooherattorneyYou should service the Omegas though because the lubricants over time become less effective and create greater wear and tear on critical parts that will wear out and need replacing. I would be just as worried for the Gaskets and seals as they are long over due and dry out leaving the watch to water ingestion vulnerability.
MTimeWell both of the Omegas in question are early 1950s bumper wind Speedmasters. I should probably have them serviced but there can be an issue getting parts. Not sure I want someone telling me I need to spend 5 times what I paid for the watch to service it if it was running when i took it in.

MTimeWell, the hi vs. low beat is a matter of taste (albeit most prefer a faster movement but tbf there is a Seiko 6 out there w/ a high beat....blanking off the top of my head though), I'll give you the sapphire (although I have a Seiko Monster I've never gotten a scratch on), the lume goes to Seiko, the bezel goes to the Glycine, and honestly every example I've bought has been within 15 seconds a day. The Sarb 017 runs maybe 5 seconds fast and the 035 runs a little over 10 seconds slow.
That's not great but out of the box the 2824 is w/in 5 I suppose?  Realize the average purchaser here will probably run it till it dies, so for these buyers --> it's out the box. As for me... I have so many watches I change them up too often to ever notice :D
Anyhow, I'm just offering an alternative and I wish Glycine had put the 2829 in this model. It's almost a joy to hand wind the Sarbs' but my Tissot... I prefer to get it over w/.

SpiritOneI am not sure 2892 is a huge step above 2824, I definitely know some people who know watches very well that prefer the 2824 than 2892 because it is more robust.

SpiritOneI agree on the Seiko Monster as i would take it with the 6r15 inside over the Glycine but for the price they want Sapphire should be a no brainer. Its one watch every watch collector should own. I just find Seiko to be such a hit and miss in the timekeeping department.

SpiritOneSeiko can't even get the little things like chapter ring and bezel alignment right. And I'm not just talking about the low end divers either. Seiko is fine, but so are many others. Except when it comes to lume.
