I was considering this, but I'm thinking of getting a Seiko Prospex Solar with a quartz movement instead. Because after 4 months and some skiing/mountaineering with my Orient Mako II, its automatic movement was so beaten up that the watch repair guy said it was seemingly impossible to adjust it properly. Does anyone know if the movement in this is significantly more shock and temperature resistant than that in entry level automatics (such as the Mako)?

oes25I have a Mido that I abuse regularly (everyday wear, incl. skiing, car racing and doing fabrication) and it's fine. IMHO, anything with an ETA movement should be fine and the lighter the watch the better - I have a couple of titanium watches and they move less on my wrist. If the Midos are a little pricey, take a look at Ocean 7 - I have two of those and they are tanks. You might also switch your band to something you can wear tighter. If you want to get something truly indestructible, look at oil-filled watches (eg. Sinn UX et al). They are super-pricey, but pretty much nothing will break them. Also, find another watch repair guy - almost any movement can be re-adjusted, but sometimes it takes significantly more skill to do so....
