T0mb3ryjust a quick question. nobody's arrow kits ever allow for IJKL arrows. I know people love VIM, but IJKL is really common amongst 60% users I thought. Is the rarity because people really don't use that on their 60% boards, or is it just inertia?

T0mb3ry @T0mb3ry Can you please clarify which of the spacebars in the Space kit are convex or concave? Are only the 1u and 2u keys convex?, or did GMK recently produce 2.25u and 2.75u convex molds?, or perhaps all of the keys are concave?

Keybler_elfNo its no mixing up. Carbon base has different label style (icons + word) and will require far more keys in the icon extension. Bone has on the other hand only icon label style and thats why its only supported.

T0mb3ryThanks for making R2 and the bases compatible to most layouts! Do the current colors match those in R1? Would you elaborate the reasoning behind R0 - R5? Ergonomic? I want to buy many kits here but the R0 and R5 rows are incompatible with my existing GMK sets (I like to have the option to mix and match). In any case, I will certainly join those kits with R1 to R4. I know this is late for a request and there is no opening that can of worms. Please consider adding R0 Function row of the Carbon Base as an additional kit in the future. I personally prefer it with the Bone Base. I can't get that exact combination without buying both bases. The Beezarre Alphas does include 8 Function keys, but not in the same order.

WXYddThe colors are the same as in R1. In case of R0 and R5 i am fine with any implementation of function and bottom row. Aesthetically i prefer of R0 and R5, however i let the people choose the profile and the majority voted for R0 and R5. So here it is.

nopunchespulledThe profile is different. Both profiles are not compatible with each other. This here is Cherry profile the other is SA profile. To your second question: since these are two different profiles you cant mix those. You said you got keys for TKL Keyboard from the other drop then its also enough for 60% keyboard. However for 75% keyboard you need modifiers extension kit because of 1.75u shift which is required for 75% layout. But if you still want to join this drop then for 75% or 60% one of the base kits is just all you need.

T0mb3ryInteresting choice for the Carbon Cadet. You don't think that it would gain more traction as a full set of alphas? Or at least have the extra punctuation keys without the numbers. People would be able to grab just the Assembly kit plus Carbon Cadet to fill out their small 40%/Planck/Ergox.

Ictearmchair expert opinion here: any changes to the kit would require going back to GMK for updated pricing since you can never assume what adding a few keys to a set would actually cost.

IcteBecause once drop is running it should not be changed there are several reasons and its not as easy as it looks like. This is also not an error which has to be handled.

Changes have been done to previous drops to add a few more keys to sets in order to accommodate buyers' needs, and given that these 4-5 missing symbol keys will be produced for the base kit (and do not have to be designed from scratch) I do not see this to be too challenging. I, just like many others, would very much like to join this drop to finally have a beautiful GMK set for my Planck keyboard but I cannot justify paying an additional $130-160 for a basekit in which 175/180 (~97.2%) of the keys will remain unused.

T0mb3rySo the only reason for you and Massdrop not being able to change this is that there are people who have put an order on the existing Cadet kit and an increase to 5 keys would increase the price, making some of the people who have put the order on this kit unhappy and/or cancel it/the whole order? No other reasons? In that case, here's another idea: Why not implement a separate Symbols Kit with these 5 missing keys, perhaps (if possible) in different colours such as it was done with e.g. Arrows Kit? People with Plancks would end up with a few more unused keys but at least not 175 unused keys.

IcteI will not add another similar kit because it will split the buyer base among those kit and both of them will have no chance to reach its MOQ. Again i am not going to alter existing kit neither will i introduce duplicate kits. If drop runs then it runs till the end as it is - as long there is no significant errors. Anyway i will consider those punctuation keys for 40% users in my future projects.

T0mb3ryVery well, I see that this is something that cannot be reasoned with you and you are not open to change. I would highly suggest that before you submit your ideas for a new drop/groupbuy, take a look at how MiTo did with e.g. Susuwatari where he managed to include kits supporting both standard/staggered layouts and ortholinear layouts in a very efficient manner without requiring people buying kits and ending up with a ton of unused keys. Just for the heck of it, one final idea would be to add a separate Ortholinear Kit and removing the ortholinear keys from the existing Assembly Kit as well as lowering the price of this kit and informing buyers via email about the change. Yes, some buyers would move from Base + Assembly kits to the new Ortholinear Kit but I highly doubt you would not reach MOQ on these kits - in fact, I think you would increase amount of buyers, especially people like me who want a GMK set for their Planck/Preonic/other ortholinear keyboards.

IcteThis drop had its interest check thread on geekhack and i gathered enough valuable feedback for the kits. Carbon Cadet however was not featured in that IC check because it was thought to be as surprise kit and it was done in the end of the development. Anyway thanks for suggestions i will consider those in my future projects.

TWD-IndustriesFor me it would be really bothersome because i prefer perfect match. As long as you use boneyard with round 1 GMK Carbon on a layout without a numpad it will work. Otherwise the difference between R4 and R5 is visible at any angle.

TWD-IndustriesHonestly if (if is the biggest question here) Round 3 happens then it will be just like Round 1 with minor changes. R0 and R5 (and several kits) will be the unique perk of Round 2. I will not offer all these kits in my future projects and i don't see any reason for a fix because there is no error.

Everything is fine ;) Anyway i've planned an Upgrade kit (which featured only R0 and R5 keys) for Round 1 owners but i had to discard that idea because the price for such kit is around 130$ which makes no sense.

I agree that it makes no sense considering it would further justify the Economy of Scale for R0/5 molds and wouldn't have the usual risk of splitting the base, as there aren't many* people from R1 who will rebuy a base kit to have compatibility, but that's certainly not on you. *I'm sure there are people who are considering liquidating their R1 base on MM for that exact reason

tzdarkAll the recent GMK drops are in similar price range +-15, and it does go lower at higher MOQ, everyone was expecting all the kits will hit initial MOQs, but surprisingly GMK drops arent faring well lately. Few in GMK GB at GH got cancelled, Choclatier barely made the cut. I wasnt expecting Carbon to have same fate, but alas.

TylernolYou are missing Bone base kit. Bone Icon extension kit is an extension for Bone base kit in order to make it only with icons. Without Bone base kit you are missing important modifier keys.

T0mb3ryAny thoughts on splitting the bone base into a mod kit and making the base kit the default for everyone? You would smash MOQ for base and give the bone base people a chance to pay extra for what they actually want. I for one will cancel if I can't get bone base, and if you assume I'm not alone then this strat might make financial sense as well. Just a thought! Thanks for the time
