Hi everyone, We wanted to give everyone a clear picture of what is happening with this drop. The Godspeed SA Keycap Set drop took place in November and had a ship date of March 31, 2017. However, we have had consistent delays in production at the manufacturer’s end for this drop, which has resulted in a long delay.
The delays have been caused due to couple reasons. Signature Plastics quotations on the shipping time have been based on time frames that they have experienced in the past. However, due to the increase in demand of the SA keycap sets from the community and in general greater popularity of mechanical keyboards, keycap orders have increased considerably in volume. As most of the community is aware, the SA profile keycap production line for Signature Plastics is extremely impacted and any delays in the manufacturing of one keycap set results in a delay down the chain. All this being said, Signature Plastics is setting up more production lines and trying to alleviate the production issues as soon as possible. The biggest hurdle they are facing is hiring because there is significant training and quality control involved in making these drops happen for the community. The community will be seeing benefits of these actions, but they won’t be in the short term. So, what is happening with this drop? Since we are significantly delayed beyond the quoted shipping date, we cannot assume that community members who joined the drop still want to be a part of it per FTC regulations, and they have to opt back into the drop. We have a new shipping date of July 31 provided for this drop and our Community Support team will be sending emails to everyone detailing the next steps. Please keep an eye on your inboxes because If we do not hear back from you by the new shipping date, we’ll have to assume that you’d like to not be part of the drop anymore, and refund your money. YanboWuI guess what I'm still not understanding is how in the latest round of delays, there was no update until the final day of the window when it was revealed that production hadn't even started, and then it was several days of complete silence. On a drop with this much interest, does Massdrop not have the resources to request status updates during production? As you said in your post, everyone knows there is a backlog; why wouldn't updates be sought out?

YanboWuSince there are quite a few people wanting to pick up extra kits, is it possible for us to pick up any spots that are potentially cancelled? Might be a nice gesture to the community that has supported you through thick and thin. I know I've been wanting this set for quite some time and would be fine with the wait if I could get a few more sets that I need. My keyboard has changed since this buy was initiated back in September :(

CyricI hope they re-evaluate their system. This is likely a lot of people on multiple ends dropping the ball. Massdrop should have been on top of the situation earlier. The production company should not have been allowed to keep delaying the same set multiple times, giving preference to other sets. I understand they can't devote all their resources to one thing, but it almost seems like they didn't want to tell a bunch of other people to wait, so they decided delaying one big one was better than many small ones.
They really should have had someone on this daily. Someone has to be responsible for getting updates. It almost feels like the updates are automated, and impersonal, and for shipments of regular products that is acceptable. But for something like this, there should have been constant updates and a point-of-contact. I find it difficult to believe this would have happened if someone from Massdrop was checking in regularly to ensure fulfillment was actually occurring. The production company deserves most of the blame for poor scheduling, and for taking on more work than they could reasonably handle, but where was the oversight? Massdrop has to act on our behalf to get updates, and they didn't. Both companies have a lot of issues to solve, and this situation has exposed a great deal of them.

YanboWuWill it be possible to pick up kits that other people drop? I missed out and would love, love, love to pick up kits I couldn't get at the same price of the GB. We would seriously appreciate it.

Does this new shipping date of July 31 override the one we received on 5/15 in an email from Massdrop, that stated, "The current estimate to complete the production run puts us at around June 15th, and we're hoping to get them shipped out of our warehouse by June 20th." ?

olbezNot quite - due to FTC regulations we have 1 shot to communicate the delayed ship date on this drop to the community. If that date is missed - all orders must be cancelled - which we feel would be counter to what most people want.
So this date was communicated with a lot of buffer. We will ship these as soon as they've arrived in our warehouse.

YanboWuWhat means, if we don't reply you mean we don't want to be on the drop anymore? Since start we got troubles on getting your mails ( i didn't get this one for example), and now we must be active on it?
i hope it's a joke, after 10 Months waiting, if you cancel my order, someone is gonna die... we bought we get it unless we cancel it. what if im on hollidays and dont read the mail? You cancel it and good luck on me.

HeartsekaiFollowing FTC rules is part of doing business in the USA (which isn't to say it doesn't suck sometimes, but there's not much Massdrop can actually do about it, short of closing up shop).
Feel free to complain about the quality of communication, though, if that makes you feel better. I'm not sure it'll change anything going forward, since the ostensibly poor communication about this particular drop seems to me to mostly be a "perfect storm" of smaller communication mistakes on the part of both MD and SP. Based on my own previous interactions with MD's CS, I suspect they've already improved their policies & procedures to ensure it doesn't happen again.

YanboWuGood thing I dug through two weeks of comments and found this. I was never emailed about this update and never received this new opt-in email. If I hadn't found this I would have assumed everything was good and would never have received my caps. This is honestly getting ridiculous, now I know this will definitely be my last drop and I will discourage others I know from participating in drops. This is simply not worth it.
