Patina is a individualized effect prized for its unique aesthetic and found primarily in copper pieces that have been exposed to oxidation. Now you can sneak some of the same style into your shoes with the Patina Pack, an exclusive collaboration between Massdrop and GourmetKickz. Starting with a canvas of either an Air Force 1 or a Jordan 1, every pair of shoes is covered in a custom copper paint and aged to showcase a dashing and distinct patina. Most of the shoe is then covered in a protective coating, but the exposed tongue will mold to your individual use.
Note: At check-out, you have your choice of the Air Force 1 or the Jordan 1. You can upgrade your purchase by adding a Custom Patina Shoebox to your order.
A lifelong sneakerhead, Chef turned to customizing Nikes after surviving a bout with cancer, using the joy of creation to work his way out of depression. Now a 12 year veteran of the industry, Chef takes breaking trends and predicts where they’ll be in a year, arriving at entirely unique designs that still capture the spirit of contemporary work. Every sneaker is a piece of mixed media art: a combination of paint, custom printed fabric, and expert craftsmanship.
The basketball icon that transcended the court and became a standard for street wear, the Air Force 1 features as much comfort as fashion with its foam midsole complete with a Nike Air unit. If you’d rather pay tribute to the greatest who ever played, go for the Jordan 1 with its cushy Air-Sole unit, flex grooves on the outsole, and overall construction that lives up to its lofty namesake.
If you go for the Jordan 1, the midsoles are aged to better tie together the shoe, further painting is done to selected panels, and thin coats of specially mixed paints are applied and distressed to better highlight the underlying patina. If you go for the Air Force 1, the white midsoles are stippled with copper paint, the lining is painted metallic copper, the laces are dyed metallic copper, and the front vamp, lacestay, and swoosh are given a top coat of metallic copper leather paint.
If you opt for the Custom Patina Shoebox, your shoebox will be deconstructed and re-laminated in a weatherproof gloss material. To match the style of your sneakers, the gloss is printed with a high resolution image of aged copper and hand-trimmed by Chef to ensure that the box looks brand new. If you opt for the Jordan 1, the lid is hand painted in real copper paint and aged. Both boxes come with a custom label that shows your size, the colorway, and the number of your specific pair in the series.
