Question - don't use headphones much. How is this as a DAC for the RCA out and then to some high quality amps and speakers? Any online reviews on this function? Can I do better with $500 for just DAC/RCA output function? If not, then this can solve the need plus have a freebie headphone amp for the rare times that I use them. Thanks.

MassDropFanto me the closest DAC you'll get to this is the Schiit Bifrost, which is $399. So you basically get a freebie amp, crossfeed and the filters, plus a nice volume control setup for the extra $100. Can't go wrong either way, IMHO.

fjrabonA friend is giving me his Asgard. Would it be worth it to skip the Grace and go for the Bifrost multi-bit?

krixusdepends on your needs form factor wise. I've never heard the multi-bit or the Asgard, so I can't really make any head to head comparisons. They're actually about the only products in the Schiit midrange tier I haven't heard.
I had a Bifrost and Lyr and prefer the m9XX. The crossfeed being baked in was nice, and to me the form factor and design was much more convenient. But those were just my preferences. I guess the multi-bit is theoretically superior as a DAC, but I honestly can't hear the differences between the really good DACs and the highest tier. I can't hear the difference between a bifrost and a gungnir, for example.

fjrabonNod. Thanks for the reply. Doesn't seem like I can go wrong with the Grace.

fjrabonIf I don't have need for DSD, which I don't, isn't Emotiva DC-1 very good buy, probably better (for $399) than Grace? I'm looking for opinion, as I haven't heard anything but Fiio E10K and Chord Mojo, and thought difference was reasonably small...

dimicI had heard from my friend's Grace on how well it pumps the HD800 to flying colors! We won't go wrong with Grace.
