Are those over ear or on ear headphones?

KaozerOn ear headphones. I have a pair of SR-80i myself, Grados are known to be somewhat uncomfortable due to their earpad designs. They are bright headphones though, and make a wonderful secondary Jazz and classical music headphones. Still, for the price of these, I would suggest the HD-598, way more comfortable, more rounded response, and a better overall headphone. Grado SR-60 and SR-80 lines are the best value of their Prestige lineup. The 125, 225, 325 all are too similar to justify the cost IMO. Wait, why not spend the extra cash for the AKG K7XX?

stevew111Thank you for the honest response and anyway on ear is a complete deal breaker for me. I wear glasses and on hear designs made me waste enough money... And well im not sure i want to buy new headphones yet either. I allready have audio technica's AD 900X's and M40X's and quite happy woth those so far.

KaozerI also own an Audio Technica AD700X; my guess it's similar to the AD 900x except slacking on the low frequency response compared to the 900. It reminds me of the Grado, except to me the Audio Technica exhibits better sound stage and is way more comfortable. For my next buy, I'm strongly tempted by both the Fostex Th-X00 or the AKG... Damn you mass drop, the last thing I need are another pair of headphones!

stevew111You are right the 900's have better low end. I absolutly love them for games, their sound stage is so good id rather have those than any surround headphones. And ive been tempted by the fostex too they are just way out of my price range....

My ears sorta stick out a bit and are quite sensitive and get rather itchy with Grados. The stock pads aren't bad, but I replaced my worn out set with the L Cush pads for improved imaging. One suggestion is to hand wash with woollight laundry detergent to soften them up. I still love using the Grados for the office, but at home I tend to prefer my hd598 and DT770s for gaming, music, and comfort.

stevew111If those are the two you are considering, I highly recommend the Fostex over the AKG.

theupandcomingcoreyThanks for the Fostex suggestion! After watching Zeos's raving about the T50RP mk3; I've picked up a pair from Guitar Center. All of my other headphones have been sitting in a drawer since then. I even bring them daily to work along with a Fiio dac/amp. Once the Purpleheart TH-X00 shows up again, I'll jump on that drop.

KaozerSeriously look into the T50RP MK3. Once you swap out the earpads and poor audio cable they can't be beaten for the price. When I mention the audio cable is of poor quality, it truly is. The connector in mine had a poor soldering thus it began to have loose connection issues hours after use; but with the replacement V-moda cable and upgraded ear-pads; it truly became my favorite headphone.
