bjwConstruction used to be slightly different as well, housing and cable. A little changes in find tuning, I would say.

foppleHaving fairly neutral headphones in my arsenal, I'd say though that the Grado's are anything but.
They are treble and mid forward more so than the broad range of headphones out there that would be considered neutral. (I have the AKG K7XX, Beyerdynamic DT990, and Mr. Speakers Alpha Prime)
I'm not sure how they tuned the Alessandro's to be better for rock.
I suppose the question comes down to if you listen to rock or classical? And would you prefer the Alessandro's for rock over classical? I see the Grado's as good for both because of the treble and mid forward stance.

solomon_tingsam_liYeah, having owned SR-60, SR-60i, SR-80, SR-225, MS-1, MS-Pro i, RS-1i, I can tell you that the Alessandros are a more neutral tuning than the house Grados. Grados have more treble and a more forward midrange. Alessandros are a bit more controlled and flat.
For most modern music, the average listener would probably prefer Grado to Alessandro - even i.e. SR-60 to MS-1. For stuff like vocal music, classical, I'd take Alessandros.
As for Grado themselves, while I admire the Brooklyn-based manufacturing commitment, their distributor arrangement is crap, and this not-honouring-warranty policy is even worse. Despicable. So hard to find them around the world, and the MSRP gets inflated because distributors suck. So kudos to Massdrop for offering them.
