@MassdropUltralight Is this the V1 Crown, or is it the Crown 2?

jnthnrvsThis is the first version, or the V1 I believe, as the Crown 2 has a lid pocket, and this pack does not have a lid pocket. I just watched this video which is a review of the Crown 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTtrLIBL1ao&feature=em-uploademail The reviewer, an experienced reviewer and backpacker stated that generally a good pack, but the straps were a killer after a few miles. Again, he was reviewing the Crown 2, so perhaps the Crown 1 has the same issue? The pack in this drop seems to be a good price, and others have paid double for it, and seem to like it. I guess a little more research is necessary.

jnthnrvsI found a video from 2016, and there are more out there, that is a pretty good review of the the Crown 60 pack offered in this drop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6fdNA560ZE The reviewer on Section Hiker seems to like it too. https://sectionhiker.com/granite-gear-crown-vc-60-backpack/ 4.1 stars on Amazon, and a few complained of an uncomfortable fit. It seems like an individual preference or body type issue.

jnthnrvsFrom the description: Note: At checkout, choose the Crown V.C. 60 in your choice of size (regular or long) and color (black/dark slate/bleumine, tamarillo/blood orange, or cactus/moonmist), or choose the women’s regular-fit Crown V.C. 60 KI in size (short or regular) and color (cactus/moonmist). Also, the pictures are those of the Crown V.C. 60 (V.C. = Vapor Current, the frame technology) and Crown V.C. 60 Ki (women's version). While I was dismayed with the Blaze A.C. 60 drop, this one more than makes up for it! Three colours, two torso sizes, and the men's belt is adjustable from 26-42 inches. Not sure why the women's pack comes with a men's belt though.... (This couldn't possibly be one of MD's infamous typos could it? )

MsilverhammerI've used a Crown 2 and had no problem with the straps. I'm guessing the guy likes to wear his packs with most of the weight on the shoulder straps. These packs are meant to be worn with most of the weight on the hip strap, and very little on the shoulder straps. He also says he really likes attachment points on bottom of the pack for tent, ect. Not the type of user who is going to use this pack. In the video I didn't see a section where he shows how he put it on. Would have been very useful to watch his sequence of tightning the various straps. Even taking off the bag would have been insightful as he should have used the oposite sequence. I did get some insight when at the end of the video he shows the pack he likes more and then shows throwing it 60 feet down the hill. Not quite how I'd test a pack. This drop is for the precurser to the Crown 2, a better pack, in my opinion. And even better, is the MassdropXCrown2 where they did some mods on the Crown2. I have the Crown2 and my son (in Scouts) has the Massdrop version.

DismalDaveIt seems obvious that backpacks are like food, shoes, colors, and clothing, and each person has a personal preference. Bottom line, all human bodies are different, so the comfort level will vary. Sometimes operator error, improper sizing, strap type, padding, weight of the load being carried, type of terrain, fitness level, weather, footwear, and the failure to make the proper adjustments are all part of the many calculations and factors that affect and determine the performance, suitability, and comfort level of a backpack!
