WHo would play $225 for a crap stand, 4 $1 cores, a mediocre pick set and a useless pinning tray. Are you going to pin a lock then try to pick it while already knowing the pin layout?? EDIT: show your friends your Lock picking CD as well

Also considering this set. Do people recommend it for complete beginners?
bontakunFrom the seller: This kit makes an awesome intro kit for beginners and yet it is just as useful for those who may have had some prior experience. The fact that the locks are of the EZ Rekey variety gives the beginner full control of how easy or difficult the lock combinations will be to start out with because he/she can tailor the pin combinations to whatever level of challenge desired. Changing a lock takes a matter of seconds and requires no tools. In short, you really can't outgrow the kit.

bontakunNo. it's massive overkill and overpriced for what you're getting. Get a basic 5-11 pick set and pick up a master lock #3. Most locksport folks don't repin enough to need a full repinning kit, and after a little while in the sport you'll have a few disassembled locks for extra pins. (I've been picking locks for ~20 years and leading locksport events for ~10)
From the seller: Just wanted to let everyone know that beginning with this drop we are now shipping the newest version of our TriPik-II stand -- that is, on every drop that includes this stand :) The new version, ModXPC, accepts a wider variety of KIK-style cylinders in terms of diameter than the original stand. Commercial KIK cylinders up to 7/16" diameter are now supported as well as the standard diameter cylinders (5/8" dia.) - and the stand will now accept Sargent and similar KIK cylinders that have a raised boss, or protrusion, along the bottom of the shell. This makes the TriPik-II more universally useful for users who work primarily with KIK-style practice locks.

Joined drop 10/3/18, drop ended 10/8/18, product shipped 10/26/18, product "received" 10/31/18. The only issue with the "received" is that the product was never actually received. I will wait the couple days, as Massdrop says couriers can sometimes post an early "delivered", but I've never had that experience, so I doubt that's the case. I'm leaving this post here, rather than a bad rating, as I don't believe this is the manufacturer, nor Massdrops fault (the fault likely belongs to FedEx, whom I've called and have yet to get a good answer from); but I'd just like to get this issue solved, so I'm posting here alongside filing a ticket with Massdrop customer support. I can only hope their turnaround with this product is as good as it was with a different product that I had issues with; which was solved promptly within about a week or so, new product in my hands. I will update this post as things progress. Update 11/22/18: Forgot to update this! I can go back and check my emails to see exactly when everything worked out, but I'm too lazy. :P General idea was I had to deal mostly with the postal service (as they messed up the delivery), so there wasn't a ton of waiting via Massdrop. I kept them updated, and once we came to the conclusion that my package was sort of just lost; Massdrop quickly responded and made a very kind, one-time exception to refund my transaction in full, so I didn't lose out on a ton of money. Refund was processed promptly and was back on my card before I even checked! Kudos to Massdrop on this; have had only great experiences with them, this far. I'm now back to participate in this drop once more, as I'd really like this kit!

Modern PCs like mine and all new laptops dont have CD-readers, only USB.
OlivierPonsFrom the seller: We will be providing these materials for this and future drops in both CD-ROM and USB flash drive. Thank you, OlivierPons, for pointing this out. All future drops from GSR Enterprises that include ebooks will have both formats included as well.
