I have a question: if there are high and low gain outputs why is there also a gain switch? What does a gain switch do anyway?

WESXFHigh gain and low gain outputs (1/4" output) correspond to impedance, not gain, e..g, high gain output for headphones like HD 800, low gain output for headphones, e.g., Denon 7200 headphones; the gain switch is really for gain control, applicable for both 1/4 and XLR outputs

NWJasonallow me to ask a further ignorant question (my previous amps have not had a gain switch): what does gain do? what is the right setting for a HD800?

WESXFTo be simple, high gain means high power to drive the cans, normally low sensitivity, e.g., some planar headphones require high gain. H20 generally provides four options: low gain low impedance, low gain high impedance, high gain low impedance, and high gain high impedance. My understanding HD800 should use low gain high impedance, high gain might be too much for them

rnrneverdieIt's dropped twice since march, so I would not be surprised. If you are willing to pay a bit more I believe its on Shenzenaudio.

WESXFI am not that engaged to have H20. I have one for high impedance headphone whci should be fine with Elex. I use it for K701 which is 62 ohm impedance.
