With its round case and tapered pusher protectors, the Hamilton Railroad Chronograph Automatic resembles a vintage pocket watch. Even more indicative of its retro vibes? It’s railroad themed. Beneath the sapphire crystal are many fine details, not the least of which is the tachymeter. Done in chestnut brown, it radiates out from the center like a spiral staircase, or a set of railroad tracks (however you want to look at it). The subdials at 12 and 6 o’clock sport a bold, brushed metal look to match the stainless steel case and hands. The subdial at 9 tracks running seconds; it’s absent of the brushed metal ring for a more subtle look. The foundation of the timepiece is Hamilton’s own H-21 movement of 25 jewels. Boasting an impressive 60-hour power reserve, the movement can be seen through the display caseback.
