Worth it for $60? You could buy 7-8 of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WD2L13Q.

SLFSok...so...??? It's a keyring. How is titanium better than steel for this application? Visually, I see little difference. Functionally, I don't expect much difference. Convince me it's worth 6-7 times the steel.

zerobedienceresearch 'Titanium' and also the product this will educate you on why people are so interested in this product.

zerobedienceTrue, but that is a clone made out of Stainless Steel instead of Titanium. I guess it also comes down to who you want to support and where you want your money to go. Chinese manufacturers very frequently watch Kickstarter and clone any project that is successful. That is why there is the cheaper knockoff on Amazon. As one of the original Kickstarter Campaign supporters, I can say that this is a quality item that will last for years with no issues.

SLFSI'm really not trying to troll, but sometimes these drops make me wonder if I'm the one being trolled. "Because Kickstarter!" does not provide any information helpful in understanding why I should spend so much for a keyring.

zerobedienceThanasit (Sunny) Inkavesvaanit designed and created this titanium clip (after apparently over 100 prototypes). As he created it, he deserves to profit from it. Titanium costs a great deal more than stainless steel (see photo attached) and his cost to manufacture it is much higher than a factory in China who can afford to make only a few pennies per unit. You can certainly make the case that the Chinese clone will meet your need while costing less, but it is pretty crappy to support the practice of stealing the ideas and hard work of an individual.

I'm not sure what you're implying there. I didn't even know your friend existed until you posted this. I saw a key carabiner on Amazon that met my needs and price point, so I purchased it. Perhaps you could let your friend know that there are Chinese clones of his carabiner design that are readily available from a variety of outlets, and at a much lower price point. Maybe with your support he could get those terrible clones off the market to ensure that he makes the profit he so richly "deserves".

zerobedience I can understand what you're talking about. But I think that isn't really the point. Most people would be interested in buying this due to it being high quality in a great material. It'd be like buying a kit car made to look like a Ferrari instead of the real thing. It may LOOK similar, but that's where the similarities end. I also agree with Romeo on not supporting Chinese knockoffs looking to make money off other companies/individuals hard work and designs (Not saying you knowingly searched for a cheaper knockoff or anything.) As an owner of a Handgrey H3 Carabiner that I use daily I can say it is worth the price and would HIGHLY recommend it even at the full retail price.

zerobedienceI understand your skepticism regarding the disparity in pricepoints, but even at a glance the original carabiner seems to have a nicer finish and the construction is better (to my eye, the machining is crisper).
Originally this would have been a relatively rare (and hence cool item). An objects value is often set by supply and demand, so its scarcity (and appeal to a niche market who appreciate industrial design) would mean its cost is relatively high. However the minute Chinese factories step in and inject the market with cheap clones, its value is compromised and challenged – as has been demonstrated here.
You obviously like the design (as you bought the clone) and – originally – the design is where the value is added, by someone spending lots of time to craft something special and unique.
In the interests of disclosure I haven't bought one of these (and the cost is more than I can justify to myself) but I appreciate the thought that's gone into it, and I think it should be possible for artisans to earn a living doing what they love.
You're right on this though: assuming they have the design patented, they should slap a cease and desist on the copier, but I don't know how easy that is in practice.

zerobedienceThis keyring has changed my life. I will no longer fear having to swap out cheap carabiners every few months and dropping my keys in parking lots or other places again. I have one from an Christmas gift, it's worth EVERY DOLLAR.
