I don't know why, but I never paid duties with Massdrop, so far (I'm in Montreal). And I've bought many things, check my profile to see my past drops...
I always have to pay duty, taxes and brokerage fees when DHL is the courier, and it always takes forever to get items released from Canadian Customs. It took 4 months for me to get a Seiko Turtle from Singapore. I had given up hope when it finally showed up at the post office. If Massdrop would just ship USPS first class to Canada we would not have this extra cost. I will have to rethink my Massdrop purchases if they continue to use DHL for shipping to Vancouver. It just makes a good deal not so good.
Yeah, I've got two recent Glycine purchases coming via DHL. The first one, the Combat Sub, is showing expected delivery July 5. No way would it take this long via USPS first class. My other DHL experiences have been with E bay purchases. I'm a bit worried about the additional costs. I got the Orient Bambino from Massdrop and it came USPS ahead of schedule.
Actually, I received the Combat Sub today at the post office. $36 in duty and taxes. That I can live with. The shipping is through DHL Express Post and is delivered to the post office, not to a home address. I'll see how it works out with the Glycine Airman which was a lot more expensive.
