watchu21If they had gotten the twisted lugs into the design I'd say yeah it's a straight up copy. The only thing that remotely pays homage to the Omega darkside of the moon is the black case. I think Bulova's a bigger offender in that respect.
watchu21They look nothing alike, nothing. Different hands, different sub dials, different hour and minute markers. Maybe the bezel? But even then the Omega has graduated markings, this does not.
KethNo.
I don’t think the BB is a direct homage to that particular Rolex sub.
BB is more of homage to its own past subs of the 70’s.
The term homage, as far as most watch guys use it, is mostly associated with a less storied brand that has no history of its own taking design cues of a long established well known watch brand in their own watch design (ie. Steinhart, Alpha, Gevril).
Rolex owns Tudor-and there’s collaboration and investment by Rolex in Tudor. Tudor is Rolex‘s “affordable” brand for the sub $5000 segment of the market — it keeps Rolex prices safe when they use Tudor to compete against Omega. Tudor is not ripping Rolex designs— both brands work closely together and share.
ZeroAPRI know Tudor is a sub brand, but the bezel, markings, and hands are so close, that the Tudor just feels like a knock off, especially to people who don't know of the connection between the brands. Perhaps Squale 20 Atmos would have been a better example.
At least Tudor have the Pelegos and North Flag, which look better than anything Rolex currently offers.
This s what a copy/homage looks like: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/yrcJssdXviQ/maxresdefault.jpg
