In 2015 I purchased the Hennessy Ultra Light Backpacker Asym Zip, and ordered the larger rainfly (Hyperlite Asym Rainfly 20D SilNylon). I've been section hiking on the AT in New England. I gave up my ultra light 2-lb, 1-person tent for this hammock system.
At 63 years old, I 100% love this shelter system. 4-days ago, I ended a 7-day backpacking trip on the AT in NH. I had 3 consecutive days of rain, and intermittent rain on other nights . With the larger rainfly, I was 100% extra-dry under the rainfly. Gear stored under the rainfly was also dry. I was able to sit up in my hammock (with feet on the ground) and cook/re-hydrate my dinners. Using Snake Skins to quickly pack the hammock and fly in the rain and store them in water-proof pods in my pack was a snap!
I'm a side-sleeper, and this hammock allows for this sleep position.
When adding the larger rainfly, purchasing 4 light stakes to stake out the fly, purchasing the longer straps, and some extra hanging hooks... my overall hammock weight is 3-lbs... heavier than I'd prefer, but the convenience, comfort, setting up the hammock over rocks, etc., and protection from the elements is worth it! One caution... make sure you learn the lashing for tying your hammock to the tree straps. Watch the Hennessy videos.
For the weight and product offered here... this is one heck of a deal!!!!!
