100 inches length = 8.3 feet. If i bought this it would probably be the shortest hammock I have ever owned. It might work, but I do not want to spend 100 dollars to find out. I suspect if one is short in stature this is a great deal.

Something no one will tell you.......... Single bottom hammocks will let mosquitoes bite any body part touching the material if nothing is used as protection against them. Protection can be a under quilt , another layer of material , the bottoms outside sprayed with bug dope or some form of insulation on the inside. I like to use a Therm-a-Rest self inflating mummy air mattress about 1/2 to 3/4 inflated. This way it will conform to the hammock and myself without being ridged. I beat the bugs by using a double bottom hammock which stops the mosquitoes from biting threw any of the bottom material. This way I can use the air mattress and if a arm or leg is off of it , it does not get bitten. I have been camping in hammocks for over 60 years and have 9 different ones. Tom Hennessy makes a really nice hammock that's quite comfortable. They also last if you take care of them , my Safari Deluxe ( Original ) is at lease 35 years old and still in good condition. I got rid of the stock tarp and got a longer and wider one. Plus snake skins for both the hammock and the tarp , it's the easy way to take them down or put them up.

I've had one of these for years. It's fairly bomb-proof/tough and this 11/2018 price is good. The stock asym tarp is tiny and you might want to eventually upgrade to a hex or winter tarp with doors. Also know the suspension takes some practice and trial/error. There are videos from HH and others but none of the methods are quickly adjustable. Get to know knots. You'll also need to learn to lay on a diagonal to get flat. Finally, for any hammock camping you need some kind of insulation under you: a pad, the Hennessy super shelter, an underquilt. For me the HH was a great intro to hammock camping and eventually led me to lighter, larger, more comfortable hammocks with lighter and faster suspensions.

What is the actual size of this hammock? The original sold by HH is 10’ x 5’ but the specs listed here are:
Hammock dimensions: 100 x 52 in (254 x 132.08 cm)
Is this a smaller ”cost reduced” version of the ”same“ model name sold directly by Hennessy Hammlock?
Is this one sold by Massdrop only 8.33 x 4.33 feet??? That’s tiny!!! More of a child’s hammock!

Does the packed weight include the rainfly weight? Or do we have to add the rainfly weight to the packed weight to get the final weight of the hammock set up? And I guess stakes are not included in the set and the weight ... or are they?

I own the classic version of this hammock, with all the trimmings (insulated pad, snake skins, super large rain fly, etc...) and I have to say that it's the best hammock system I own - I have 3 total, but 2 of them will never again see the light of day. I highly recommend this drop, but check Hennessy's website for deals before you make a decision - I ended up getting the extra fly, the snakeskinz and some water collection thing-a-ma-jigs for free.

If this had been for an Explorer (basically the same hammock, but that 1' extra size REALLY makes a difference) I'd be all over it. Even short people find the Expedition to be cramped. Why did massdrop choose this instead of the Explorer?

BoloI just looked and the green Customize button is where it should be, right under the Add to Cart Button. It looks like the price for the Explorer increased by $30 on the Hennessy website since this hammock dropped two months ago but $180 still isn't bad.
That said, if you are happy with the smaller Expedition and the standard rainfly on this drop, $125 +shipping is a good price.

Are the lower guy lines in the images attached to the hammock or the skeeter netting? Are they for stability?

namhodattached to the hammock, I believe they are bungee cord. They aren't in the middle of the hammock, one is by your shoulder and the other by your knee so the hammock don't sag as much. Thats where the asymmetrical in the name comes in. You sleep a little diagonal and the hammock feels wider.
