I have used this hammock for years. Even used it on a portion of a thru-hike of the PCT. Two years ago I was in bad storm off the shore of Lake Superior, and I haven't used it since. The fly was completely inadequate. Water was rolling off and blowing across me as I slept. I laid there, for hours, thunder and lightning and wind, angry, realizing this thing just wasn't strorm worthy. Good for occasional overnights, but not when things get tough. Went back to a ground-based set-up and that's where I intend to stay.

I'd really like to get this but I'm more interested in the zip model. Will massdrop be selling that?

I have the zip version of the explorer. Love it. Fits me and my 5yo son comfortably when camping. I gutted out the factory suspension and went with warbonnet cinch buckles strung on dyneema runners.

What size snakeskin should you get with this hammock?

I have a Hennessy classic not explorer and not lightweight. Velcro bottom entry is easy and convenient. Fly is effectuve. Setup (add snakeskins but nothing else) is quick, clean and easy. Don't need any hardware or rings. Follow the Hennessy video.

Thanks for your endorsement. Could you please elaborate on the virtues of this hammock and perhaps compare to the ubiquitous Eno brand hammocks many are familiar with?

Knutbugs can't bite through it. the bug net is integrated so they can't get in. the patter. stops you from sleeping like a banana, but instead is much flatter. it comes with a fly, and the fly works alright. it can be used as a tent if it needs to be. it's really a jack of all trades.
