Wow..... Just a day after the other drop ended, where people were discussing steel type options. Wonder how many wouldn't have bought the last one if they knew a white steel version was dropping a day later?
That said, bladehq sells the brown for $80 and the silver and blue for $92, so not a terrible deal here Edit: $69.40 with free (not prime) shipping from Woodcraft on Amazon for all 3 models

KavikI didn't read too much on the last higonokami drop, does white steel fetch that much more of a premium over blue? Or is this also because of the additional handle options?

CyphreGenerally White paper steel is considered the better steel simply because of the narrow heat treating range to harden the steel. Furthermore it is extremely pure with very few impurities. Whether or not its worth the near double price point, is up to personal opinion. I`m on the fence about this particular drop just because of the nice handle options.

Kaviki got the 10 buck versions dropped a few months ago and love them..not these hi end ones but great little tackle box knives...considering one of these to compare...not there is anything to compare.

bambam67Blue or white should take a keener edge, hold a more acute angle for longer, compared to the SK or mystery steel versions
But depending on how you're using it, absolute sharpness may or may not matter. You might be better off with a softer (less brittle) steel if you might be hitting bone or fish hooks with it

Kavikquality matters and i agree differing types of steel have different uses . my big concern is knowing what is real and what is a knockoff.. amazon and ebay and several other places offering dozens of sellers makes that difficult

bambam67That is a good point as well. I know I've seen mention of the replicas that use the engraved samurai on the handle. But i'm sure it wouldn't be hard for a less ethical cloner to engrave the kanji instead, or copy the models with no engravings
But, such is life nowadays, unfortunately 😖

Kaviksometimes ..just .sometimes the knock offs are better quality than the original...not very often but it does happen..just knowing and not paying the high price thinking its an original is the rub.

bambam67I can see where the could be the case. It really isn't a hard design to make at all. If I ever get around to trying my hand at making a knife myself i could see this being an easy place to start (or a kiridashi, but definitely this if it's going to be a folder)
But to me the cool part about this knife is its history, not its average functionality...so if i do buy one i would definitely want it to be genuine
