How does this compare to the Proelia Knives Tactical Folder? I really like the look of the Proelia over this, but I am willing to switch if anyone has any experience with this knife.

TearsOfWarI have carried a HK Auto with a tanto blade for a few months and love it. It has the same d2 steel and seems pretty durable. Have not had to sharpen it yet. These are made by Benchmade and I prefer sticking with an established brand with a good warranty. USA made too! I considered the Proelia too, but think I will stick with this one.

TearsOfWarNothing wrong with the Proelia but the Axis beats it in every category imo. Im not overly familiar with Proelia's D2 heat treat but Benchmades is excellent and comes with free sharpening for life. The scales on the Axis allow almost any grip style. The Axis lock is far superior to any liner lock. The clip can not be moved on the Proelia unlike the Axis. All that and you get Benchmades incredible customer service. I wasn't a fan of the stock clip so I emailed Benchmade asking for a deep carry option. They mailed one out for free and it was here 2 days later. The only reason I could see someone going for the Proelia over the axis is if they have an extreme aversion to blade coatings, even though the HK's is top notch and mine barely shows any wear.

bedpDoes Benchmade offer the deep carry clip as an option in some purchases or as an accessory? It's hard to imagine they have ones available to send but don't have them for sale, or that they make them per request.

MDDogeIts part of their warranty. All you have to do is email them asking for the specific clip you want. So if you would like a deep carry clip you ask for a clip for the 810 Contego which will fit the Axis as well as the Grips. AFAIK they dont sell them individually.

bedpI always admire a business that will follow through on a generous warranty. Does it apply to knives purchased through Massdrop as well? I'm not clear on if you got yours through another vendor or here.
As an aside, I do actually have a Proelia TX020 with a lefty-clip and clip cutout. I'll have to compare quality if I get the Axis. Do you think the standard Axis or the Mini I've seen featured here is generally a better EDC knife based on size, if you have any experience with the latter that is.

MDDogeIt applies to any benchmade knife, I actually asked for mine before registering it and I didn't even mention the Axis in the email so I don't think it matters where you purchased the knife. I only asked for a deep carry 810 Contego clip. I would think the mini would be the better choice for EDC if size/weight are important. I carry the regular and with the deep carry clip its very comfortable and I dont really notice the extra girth.

bedpWell thanks for the info and advice. I sort of missed the drop though so I'll have to wait a while if I want to get it from Massdrop I guess :P

MDDogePeople say that they can cut themselves when grabbing the knife because the blade is about 1/16th away from the end of the scales. Could you please tell me if you have the ability to cut yourself when grabbing the knife? (I don't want you to cut yourself)

HowAmII have the Axis Mini, so I'm not sure how they scale. I haven't had an issue with my Mini though. From what I see elsewhere online the AXIS is extremely well regarded, so I doubt it's anywhere near a ubiquitous issue. I'd suggest googling your question if you haven't, someone's probably talked about it if it's an issue.

HowAmIOh haha, guess I was confused there. At least for my TX020 it's either impossible or extremely difficult to knick myself on the blade when closed. The tip's pretty close to the end, but I've never accidentally cut myself on it, and I can barely touch the tip when trying to jam the tip of my pinky between the frame. If the tip was maybe a millimeter closer it might be possible, but I think it'd have to be flush with the frame or even sticking out for me to have an issue, though how you draw and handle the knife makes a difference. I'm not sure how much variation there is in the Proelia manufacturing process, so I suppose it's possible.
