If anyone has used one of these, does the water end up having have a plastic-y taste or smell?

ATPaddlerI have the 2l seeker. I rinsed it with water and vinegar. Then water again. Taste fine now.

ATPaddlerI have one of the 1 liter bottles. It does not have a plastic taste to it. From reviews I have read over the last year or so, it seems that an early run of their products did. They apparently changed something.

Seems like on a lot of these drops, shipping for two items is more expensive than submitting two separate orders. One is $2.75, two is $6.75?

Any chance any of you have used this? Considerlong it for a group of Scouts for our 10 day high adventure trek in NM. We will be using river water and purification tablets. I like the idea of a way to have a larger amount of H20 for cooking bigger meals and maybe a make shift shower.
I am also sure you have a commentary that you believe adds entertainment value- but in reality some really would like input that has value.

BT8484In general, I think this would work for Philmont, but I would go a different route. I recommend many smaller (1L-2L) containers for Philmont. If one of your containers fails, you have backups. Over 10+ days last year, 2 of my containers met with disaster. For washing clothes I used a gallon zip log and for personal wash and miscellaneous water, I carried a sil-nylon bucket.

BT8484I'd like to ditto others who suggested more 1 and 2 liter containers rather than relying on one container. Empty GatorAde and 1 and 2 liter water and soda bottles are essentially free, lightweight and durable. However, for a group gear container (does need to be TLC'd more than a hard side) this is pretty decent for the low weight penalty and might require some creativity hauling full from your water source. I'm getting the blue one on this drop for my volunteering with high adventure Girl Scouts. Have generally found them tougher and more mature. Took me into my 20s to grow up :) 😉 I think you'll get good results and let the community know how it goes. Good camping!
