Can anyone speak to the taste of the water from the Hydrapak?
I have Camelbak's brand new one and have tried every possible method for removing the plastic flavor to no avail. I can eliminate it for several hours by soaking it with a baking soda/vinegar solution before filling but anything longer and that nasty taste returns.
I read many reviews on reservoirs before purchasing the Camelbak and so few mention any flavor and some reported no flavor. Either people are lying or just don't care about plastic flavored water.

FuzzymuzzleI've not had a taste issue with my Hydrapak. I've owned 3--my first was when they were marketed under the Dakine brand. I agree that Camelbak's often have a rubbery/chemical taste, but haven't figured out if it comes from the feed tube or the container itself. (I suspect the tube, because once I start the water flowing, it tastes better.) If you still have issues, one option (if backpacking) is to put an inline filter along the tube. I've used one from DrinkSafeSystems (UK) that has activated carbon (unlike the Sawyer filters).

FuzzymuzzleStill plastic taste more noticeable when water has sat in it for a bit and isn't cold anymore....
gonna try soaking in with baking soda and water this weekend then rinse with vinegar and see. But it's getting kinda ridiculous...

Amber_426It almost is ridiculous...almost nobody notices or carrd. I mean, if you taste plastic how could that possibly be ok? I'm thinking of DIYing a gravity system using a stainless bottle, some tubing and a bite valve. It'll weigh twice as much but if done right I might avoid unintended gender change.

FuzzymuzzleYes plastic taste is there but not as bad as a camelbak. I've switched to this from my 4 year old camelbak. This isn't as bad compare to the camelbak, it isn't as strong. I only use mine when pack weight is really an issue and I have to carry high volume, otherwise I'll try to stick to my titanium bottles for low volume or multiple SS when pack weight isn't an issue.

arislanI have a brand new Crux Camelbak...said to be way better than the older ones but again, to me it's pretty nasty within several hours. Pretty inconvenient to have to soak it with baking soda and vinegar so often. My plain Camelbak water bottle barely needs to be cleaned and has zero taste. Can't wait till the tech catches up to my taste.
