There is no option for the cleaning tablet pack!? Are they sold out?
The lid screw completely match with the Katadyn BeFree so I can purify more water at a time.
Why isn't there a picture showing how big they are and what they look like collapsed?
Wish the larger capacities were compatible with Sawyer filters, that would be perfect.
I have had two of these containers and after using it sporadically for well over a year the plastic taste persists and is pretty bad. I will try the lemon juice but I am not happy with the containers, will stick to platypus in the future.
Why do overview images on MD never have a size comparison to a person / item for reference? I realize the specs are there, but c'mon.

Fair request, but water is always going to take up the same volume of space, no matter what shape it is.
You should be able to make a decent approximation based on your experience and the dimensions listed.
So the caps break easily, they have odour issues and they impart a taste to the water. Is there anything else I should know about these before I don't order them?

Does anyone know if there is any difference between 4L and 2/3L cap hole size?
AJFWG
There is no difference in size.

Thanks
save 1.25$ from retail price and wait 2 months for it with a horrible return policy. killer deal lol
The Plastic taste... Hydrapak offers the lemon juice/freeze tip to eliminate any plastic taste in their TPU products. I had that taste in mine. This tip worked: https://hydrapak.com/support/care/
I own the 3L. Solid product. I use it with the Katadyn BeFree water filter. It's fast with a large quantity. I end up drinking more water because compared to my Sawyer setup, I can both fill more quickly and filter more quickly. It's also easy to latch onto the top of a pack with some spots to tie-down.
However the pricing on this drop is ridiculous. You can get it cheaper at your local REI/outdoor shop or via Amazon. And you won't have to wait a few weeks for it to ship.

Link?

Just Google it. Any option that comes up with free shipping will be cheaper than buying this drop. Walmart has it with free shipping, no minimum. REI has it if you grab a $50 total order. Amazon has it if you're a prime member. That's not a comprehensive list. You might save a dollar on tax, but this is an absurd "deal".
My cap broken after two uses of the bottle..it broke at the part with the ring on it as well. The cap is poorly made.

came here just to comment that mine split/broke in the same spot. I assume they tried to fix that flaw with the blue ring acting as a cushion, but nope, still breaks.
I just intended to use it after buying and leaving it for one year. And the cap was broken. Seems too fragile at the part with a ring.
I drink a lot of water. I mean A LOT! I am going to use the 3L for at the gym(instead of carrying a jug of water or a clunky hydroflask) or for when I am at work for my 10-12 hour shifts
I bought this one liter container to use with a Katadyn Befree filter. Fits perfect. Got rid of the plastic taste by using chlorine dioxide and some baking soda.

Thank you much!
Do these have any metal on them? I'd love to use one of these for hiking, but also for sneaky booze into my local music venues that now use metal detectors since the Bataclan incident in Paris.

No metal whatsoever

If it isn't rated to be used with alcohol plastics may leech into your booze.
Hmmm so just got mine and they are the older version. Lighter but I am guessing from the feel of the fabric less durable. Cap is the same apart from colour so will still fit the BeFree. Not sure how I feel about this since I love my old one which is one of the new ones (makes sense!). Will have to decide whether to use them or sell the on.
Got the 3L ones from another drop, no major problems with smell, taste etc. Couple of rinses with vinegar and keeping containers well aired when not in use - real handy for hiking and bikepacking.
I like the container, but missing plug and play cap system.
Dropping the 3 liter trek kit would be very cool of you
Try using baking powder
childreyesque
I mean baking soda
Hmm... I was initially interested in buying several of these to amend my current system, but the missing caps and persistent smell problems seem much worse than what I'm currently using. On that note: I'd love to see Massdrop offer platypus water storage containers. I've been using 3-5 one liter collapsible platypus bottles for years now - and platypus has been offering these since forever it seems. I've never had problems with smell, they are PVC free, and I'm clocking mine at 0.84 ounces each (a lower weight than offered here with this product). I can see some slight design advantages this hydrapak has over platypus' offering (wider mouth, perhaps easier to fill in shallow water), but I think they are more than offset by the *slightly* heavier weight and problems with smell. fwiw...
Just got mine in the mail today. Love the idea but plastic pool float smell and taste is real. So far I filled with hot water let sit for a few hours and dumped three times, the fumes are still strong. Current trying the lemon juice freezer thing, if it doesnt work its going in the garbage. Was upset I missed the other hydrapack drop for the bottles, not so much anymore. Not giving up hope yet, like I said I just got it today.

For each liter of capacity I put 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/4 cup vinegar, and fill with water. I then shake and let sit for 30min before freezing. Then after freezing, thaw, rinse, and dry.
I have no problems with taste after this.

Thanks. Would have thought that maybe the Lemon Juice and Vinegar may eat-away at the plastic coating but you haven't mentioned anything along those lines, so I will take it that it is all good! I will definitely try this, I have the 3L bladder on it's way as well as this container.
Hey Everyone, I joined this drop in anticipation of using this bottle as my dog's trail bottle, (I like to keep track of his hydration intake, so he is hydrating enough) however I just noticed quite a few people mentioning an "odor" or "taste"; wondering if anyone has been able to find a way to correct this, as if people are not liking the scent/taste getting my pup to drink might prove difficult? Just curious.
Any chance of a BeFree drop soon?
How do you think it will do filled with vodka? I need a trail liquor bottle. 😉😂😂

Single malt. Done the old way, as it was before the process was corrupted by modern concepts like, you know... sanitation. I hear that the legend is that it was invented to make the water from certain poison springs in the peat bogs usable. Turned into this, drinking it wouldn't kill you quickly anymore.
Presumed_Lost
Key word, quickly.
Great deal. I already have the 1L and planned on getting the 2L and 3L. Just picked up another 1L and a new 2L. These are great.
Is the 2L container compatible with the BeFree filter?
rustaf
Yes. I've got some of each size (1L, 2L, 3L), and they all work great with the BeFree.
Once more the 2L has sold out, and once more our good friends at Hydrapak were able to allocate more units for you all! Get them while you can.
PaigeD
Any word on the weights?
How do I quit this drop? Suddenly realized the description lied about weights of the 2 liter version
Thomas_E
There's a chance the weights are correct if this is for the first gen model. Some internet research tells me they changed the material to something much thicker in the new models. Hence the heavier weight listed on the hydrapak website. Some confirmation would be great thanks @PaigeD and @DannyMilks .

You can cancel a drop by going to your user menu (for you, this should be a T in a blue circle, in the upper right corner of the page), choose Transactions, then cancel from there.
You have the 2L weighing 1.7 ounces, but Hydrapak's site says it weighs 2.7 ounces. Is this a different version?
