If there was an ebony version of this for a price premium I would buy it.

rhenomAfrican Ebony is possibly the most expensive wood on earth right now. This is not a wood that would be used for something as trivial as a headphone stand.
KJ741Nit could be but it would be very expensive =D and I would probably ruin enough to make it not worth it. Seems like even with the CNC router I still have about a 10-15% failure rate on tear outs that cannot be corrected

$75 for a marginally better stand than the one we can get on Amazon, shipped for free or within the day, at 1/2 the price of this. And to think this is supposed to be 25% off.

The one we can get at Amazon? Which one do you mean?
I'm not sure which stand you are referring to but we have only sold these on massdrop. this is a premium product not mass market. some people appreciate having options for higher quality products. and as the person who makes these by hand I can assure you they are under priced for this sale.

ScroogeMcDuckIt's a glorious piece of work. I would share photos but it's currently 2 in the morning where I'm living.
Bought the purple heart model to go with my Fostex. She a hefty beaut.
And yes, I'm still using the foam package material I&S used for shipping for my audio equipment.
Yakovthank you so much for the compliment!

I can't recommend waiting for these. Look through the thread, a number of people including myself have had issues. I was told I would get a replacement and haven't heard a word since. That's was 5 months ago. They definitely don't arrive like they appear in the pictures. Mine actually was a little lopsided with one side about a 1/4 in. higher than the other. But up to you...

I'm a woodworker. I purchased one of these from the photos. Why? I saw nice wood, good craftsmanship and a nice finish. I could do all of this pretty easily, but getting good wood to make a single stand results in a lot of extra wood. If I had another project in mind for the same wood, that's no problem, but I didn't, so I ponied up. The craftsmanship of the delivered product is good. The glue-ups are solid. The shaping is professional. That leaves the finish. Well... I should have made my own headphone stand. I could accomplish the same finish in 5 minutes. Want to know how? Rub a wax on. Wait 3 minutes. Rub it off. Put stand in box. Ship.
Let me put this in context. If you don't have a planer, can't glue up wood, or don't have a bandsaw (or much better yet a shaper and a template), then consider buying one of these. Otherwise, save your money and make something specific to you for less $, more fun and with a much, Much, MUCH, better finish.
This is something I see a lot of in Etsy and other places--cut a nice piece of wood, rub on a wax or a single linseed oil coat, and ship. That's not a finish folks. You purchased wood because wood is beautiful, it evolves, it lasts. All of this is true but only when finished right. A headphone stand is not a wooden spoon. Put a reasonable coat on it.

strooperHi Stroop thanks for your feedback, do you have any images of the finish you are disappointed in? We finish these with oil based poly not wax or linseed oil. We use oil instead of wax to help give some protection from dings, with the purpleheart and padauk we also spray a UV protective coating before the oil poly to prevent discoloration due to UV light from windows.

@InkedandScreened-Support -- It'd be great to see a photo of the "Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones" WITH ATTACHED CABLE (such as "ZY Balanced Cable for HD 6XX Headphones") while mounted on your stand.
AnentHi Anent, unfortunately we do not have that headphone at our workshop, maybe someone at massdrop can wrangle one up as they have a few of our stands floating around their office.
