I recommend against this DAP as I have bought it and returned it because its price does not match up with its performance. I compared the sound quality of my DX90 with my iPod Classic 5th gen, iPod Nano 7th gen, and my old desktop speakers that had a headphone out. The difference between them all was extremely small. I tested this using the HDTracks 2014 Hi-Res Sample.
I would suggest that the $400 be spent on something more valuable such as a good pair of IEMs or a good headphone. The player matters the least. What matters more is the source audio (well mastered audio files) and the monitors you are using (IEMs, headphones, loudspeakers). As long as you have an acceptable DAC and an amp powerful enough to make full use of the speakers or headphones you are using, you should concentrate more on what I have written here.
I used that money to save up for a HiFiMAN HE-500 and it gives me an amazing listening experience compared to simply getting a better DAP.

InsatiableBut people on the Internet have been comparing this with Fiio X5, Sony ZX1 or even iRiver AK120! For sure, you need some good headphones or earbuds in the first place, but this cannot be a bad product according to the reviews I've read so far.

InsatiableIf your headphones are under $200, you should be fine with your iphone, computer. But anything higher than that, you would get better return in sound quality by upgrading your DAC/AMP or your Source. So this isn't worth the money if you plan on using a pair of apple ear buds, but these are well worth the money if you have a good pair of headphones.

InsatiableThese are made for audiophiles; people who spent near or over $1k on IEMs already and looking for more upgrades. They can drive headphones, but you're better off getting a desktop amp if you're looking for value/performance.

InsatiableI can't comment on the DX90, but having the DX50 and Sansa Fuze side by side i really couldn't hear much of a difference on my AH-D2000's. The difference became apparent once i cranked the volumes medium-high though. When you really want to hear the music at high levels (not enough to hurt my ears but a bit above "normal" levels) the bass becomes very congested on the Sansa Fuze. Almost distorted. But that's the only difference i could tell. By all accounts sub $100 or so IEM's will probably benefit very little from the DX50, let alone a DX90.
