This is a bad deal. The DX80 has more features and costs $359 direct from iBasso. If this was $250, I'd be interested, but this is no good. This is no good at all.
You would be wrong on that. The DX80 is an upgrade of the DX90. They both have dual Cirrus logic, but the DX80 has a larger screen, bigger battery, two microSD slots, coaxial and optical out, and all the features that were on the DX90 before. Getting the same price two years ago when the product was still in production isn't comparable. The DX80 is in production, costs $359 and has more features than the DX90.
the DX90 and DX50 are being retired. the DX80 is the new, upgraded DX90. And because of this, the price should be way cheaper unless there's a guarantee of future firmware support.
I have my DX50 upgraded to the latest version so I am aware of them; that wasn't my point though. My point is that going forward you can see what their featured model is. Just go to the iBasso website and check out the DAP selection. There's 1, the DX80 and it's better than the DX90 and cheaper.
If a company is dumping remaining stock of an item it's ending production of and everyone knows it, the price should be significantly cheaper. And for the record, the DX90 is a great player but people (especially on here) aren't stupid and know how to use the internet to research.
BeerCanChickenI was pretty impressed that there have been two upgrades to the DX50 firmware since it was discontinued; I just upgraded mine to the latest last week.
You're totally right that the discount should be a lot deeper on the DX90 in that it has been discontinued.
They both have dual of the same Cirrus Logic chip! The DX80 also plays DSD128 native. I'm plenty educated about their players. I own the DX50. Are you some type of troll, or just really condescending and uninformed, which is the worst type of condescending.
But you are correct on it not being a stellar deal. In saying that, the only fault I have with my DX90 (after loading Rockbox onto it) is that I would have loved the dual SD slots. At the moment I have to plug in a USB microSD card reader to access my full portable library. Still, the sound is phenomenal - I've spent many happy hours lying in bed listening to this beast.
jademonkeeThere I go getting mixed up and getting up on a stump! I feel like a Trump! Sorry, QBoQBo, for my posturing. I hope nobody thinks that I don't like the DX90, I do. I loved the sound when I got a few minutes listen in a shop and preferred it to the original AK machines. I felt it was the best bang for the buck. I haven't got to hear it compared to the DX80, so they may sound entirely different, given different DACs and different amp.
"The reason iBasso discontinues their DX50, DX90, and DX100 is because they do not want to disappoint their users (not dumping remaining stocks or DX80>DX90 like you said)They had already created epic players, but they would like to show other companies (cough cough A&K) how they can implement a chip better and focus on different DAP designs."
So basically just another way of saying the DX80 is a better player than the already good DX90? I want to make it clear I'm not saying the DX90 is bad...
You clearly work for them or have some other vested interest so send me one of each (DX80, DX90) and I promise buy the one I feel is better. :)
I love my DX90 and love the sound. I never upgraded the firmware since 2.1.8. There have been 4 updates since then. Is there a sound improvement with these updates and if so, which one is the best? (2.2, 2.3, 2.4)
